I am a 66 year-old female who is alone all of the time. My life was like this even pre-covid. My husband died 1-1-18. I had two friends but one walked away and the other did so 6 months after that. I have no friends. I tried making more but no one is interested. I don’t have any glaring personality traits ( ie talking non-stop, narcissism, etc) that would discourage someone from befriending me. No one calls. If I died in this house I literally would not be discovered until the smell overwhelmed the neighborhood. I have a son but he is schizophrenic and extremely difficult. I don’t know how much longer I can go on this way.

Sorry to hear about your late husband and you being alone. I'm close to your age and I feel very alone, too. I have never been married. All I have is just one friend locally and we seldom get together. And then I have my sister, who lives 3000 miles away and we just talk by phone. And last, I have an old friend from college who is 3000 miles away from me also and we just write to each other.

There was a time when I had quite a few friends, though at that time I felt like I didn't have much. It would seem like a lot if I had all of them now. I miss a lot of those old friends I had. They drifted away because they got married; and some just didn't want to have anything to do with me anymore.

I obviously don't have any suggestions or advice for you since I'm pretty much in the same situation. I have been trying, myself, with things to meet other people and make friends. They all didn't seem to work.

Best to you.

hi judi, you are not alone. when i got depressed i lost friends. most of them also had families and we grew apart. i have one good friend left but she and i have very different interests. but i have found there are others like us out there. when i used to take the bus, people would talk to me all the time. we were all reaching out for human connection. warm hugs.

Welcome to pc Judi (nice name btw)

I'm sorry, that sounds very hard. I have no wise words but want to send hugs. There is also a section on pc specifically for ''seniors'' (55 plus) which I think is quite active. There is also a ''games'' forum on pc which can be good for distraction, some good people post there I think it's possible for almost anyone to make friends online, as you have no glaring personality traits I think you too can make friends online. It's not the same as in ''real'' life, but as you have discovered, some people in real life can be flaky (as can people everywhere)...but there are some kind, thoughtful, people around too.

Now that more than one person has posted I seem unable to respond to you individually.
Good to hear from you Terry and Fuzzy. All responses are welcome.
I will check out the senior group. Hopefully they are as messed up as me. Not really but haha.
I do like to communicate back and forth even online. So if the mood hits please write me. You too Will. We can complain then lift each other up.
