I got a new job at the start of the year and it’s been really hard. The environment is really strict and it’s just not for me. Since I decided it was time to start looking for another job, I’ve had a hard time even getting out of bed to get to work. And then today I had the worst experience I’ve ever had in a work day in my life. A customer came in to our shop and was yelling at every single employee including me. Before she came in, she had an issue with the information I was giving her and yelled at me over the phone and I just had a complete breakdown. Like heaving sobs at my desk. I was so shaken up by the whole experience. I got no work done and I’m just so freaked out even now. I don’t know why I’m posting this- I guess I just don’t want to be alone in my head.

Oh no @pixiedust72 that must have been really rough to go through. Hope your fellow employees were sympathetic. Customer service is a very difficult job.

ON a different note, you post what happened, and you worked through a part of what happened.

Any person can have a melt down. Yet many will react differently. Hearing screaming and yelling from someone is hard to manage. One thing that could help is finding joy in your day. Even if the joy is before working. Being able to spend time doing something that brings love, joy, peace, or contentment helps those rough moments be less.

In the moment, I find distraction helpful, if someone comes in and reacts poorly, ask them to describe a sunrise or a rainbow. And it never hurt to teach others how to respond to emotionally charged events.
