She has been in and out of hospital over the last 7 months. This began with her experiencing breathlessness. Then she suffered kidney failure. In addition to that, she has emphysema as well. Her stress levels went high because of social workers picking on the family. I've had text messages bombarded to my phone, and my sister does this a lot.

My sister said they have detected swelling in three places. So they can't even operate, and this pain is affecting her stomach. My mother is 68.

Then last night, my sister says she's on a D.N.R. order, but she has already had two strokes. So if she has a heart attack, that's it, I think. Goodbye, basically. How do you even prepare for this!?

My mother helped me out so many times over the years. I don't even have any other help at all.

How utterly, utterly heartbreaking. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. Wish I knew what to say that would help. My mother is in her 90s and I fear and dread the future. Please feel free to lean on us for support during these unhappy and heartbreaking times. Hopefully others here with more understanding and wisdom will see your post and respond to it with more helpful words than my poor words. So very, very sorry I don't know how to be helpful to you!

I don't know the name of the condition. Swelling in an artery in three places.

I worry every single day now.

I am sorry, Peter A! I don't think you can prepare for it. It is more about trying to stay in it and to take good care of yourself (food and rest) while this prosess goes it's own way.

I know how you feel, I lost one of my parents due to cancer some years ago.

You are in my thoughts!
