Hi everyone, I am very new to this site. I was currently diagnosed with severe PostPartum Depression. I have 2 children and my youngest is 4 monthes old. I suffered in silence for a very long time and I would really like to meet other mothers who have dealt with PostPartum before....or anybody for that matter battling depression. I am very hopeful in meeting some new found friends to share my stories with.

welcome steph. I too have had severe PPD, alongside my long-standing depression. My youngest will be 4 in July; when she was about 4mths old I was admitted to hospital for 4 months as things were so severe. At 1yr old daughter was 6-8mths behind devpmtally but we were beginning to bond. Now we have the closest relationship imaginable, she is ahead of her age-group in many areas and things are feeling really positive. I would love to get to know you, please feel free to PM me any time and we can chat PostPartum Depression Good luck.

Hi steph and welcome to pc.... I had PPD but it wasn't diagnosed until after the fact when other mental health issues kicked in.

It's good you have been diagnosed early and can begin right away to get the support and treatment you need to get through. Early intervention can spare you flaring up additional problems with depression. Rally as much support as you can and don't hesitate to give yourself the breaks you need. It will pass but only if you take proper care. Least that's what I've witnessed and experienced.

I went for untreated PPD which triggered symptoms of bi-polar depression and post traumatic stress panic and anxiety issues. Then I discovered I had a thyroid condition and suffered several minor strokes before I got help. Then menopause hit and I refused hormone replacement therapy. So there I was.... hormones raging all over the place and no treatment. So It was a 'hell' of a decade.

I'm certain if I'd had proper care at the time the PPD set in then I might have prevented the serious collapse 10 years later and all the horrors people had to put up with living with me in those years.... and the years that I robbed from my son because of my inability to be the mother he needed me to be. We are very close today and as I recover he thrives more and more.

Above all.... take good care of you. The best gift you can give your child is a healthy, happy you.

I've no doubt you will find some very supportive women around here who can understand what you are dealling with and can remind you it will be okay.

We are here to listen and to help pick you up when you need the love and support.

I just wanted to say hi and tell you that I am new as well and have suffered with depression and anxiety for 15 years and also after I had my son, who is 4 now.
I hope we can share more with one another, it seems that this site has so many wonderful and caring people....and I need that right now!

Hi Scorring, welcome to PC.

I actually came to PC in 2005 because of my struggle with postpartum depression. My daughter was born that year and I had a one year old to boot the difficulties.

Postpartum depression is mostly temporary but in rare cases can lead to more serious issue, psychologically. During your next post check up I'd mention that you feel blueish to the doctor and see what they say. Definitely don't allow them to blow it off as the "blues", because at 4 months postpartum it's become more then "blues".

It's a hard road but can be over came...don't feel hopeless.
