I see Mars' byline... but can't place the song... yet Denver's voice echoing in the mountains somewhere comes to me... and I recall the depression he had.. and I can identify with it... but he knew it so well (it killed him)...

guess I always liked "folk" music... songs that said something.

The Wings That Fly Us Home I'm missing John Denver music

There are many ways of being in this circle we call life
A wise man seeks an answer, burns his candle through the night
Is a jewel just a pebble that found a way to shine
Is a heros blood more righteous than a hobos sip of wine

Did I speak to you one morning on some distant world away
Did you save me from an arrow, did you lay me in a grave
Were we brothers on a journey, did you teach me how to run
Were we broken by the waters, did I lie you in the sun

I dreamed you were a prophet in a meadow
I dreamed I was a mountain in the wind
I dreamed you knelt and touched me with a flower
I awoke with this: a flower in my hand

I know that love is seeing all the infinite in one
In the brotherhood of creatures; who the father, who the son
The vision of your goodness will sustain me through the cold
Take my hand now to remember when you find yourself alone

And the spirit fills the darkness of the heavens
It fills the endless yearning of the soul
It lives within a star too far to dream of
It lives within each part and is the whole
Its the fire and the wings that fly us home
Fly us home, fly us home

Words by Joe Henry, music by John Denver

Rocky Mountain High guys,

Now you're making me regret not getting that greatest hits album. Oh well my '75 vintage speakers are blown anyway. I think I choose my back-up school U.Wyo. that I went to in part because of that guy. I'm sure I tried to whistle his tunes while rock-climbing at Vedavoo (a great picnic spot 1/2ml or so off I-80 at about it's highest point in between Laramie and Cheyenne)... Darn still can't whistle it. Were all his tunes unwhistleable?
Did depression kill him you think; I seem to remember something about that at the time.
Ya I miss the guy too.

Best wishes,Downsolong

Didn't he die in an air crash? What does that have to do with depression?

It seems he did die in an air plane crash, but it was no secret he suffered from depression. I don't know. Could the two be connected?

He died because his experimental light plane didn't work as advertised. I doubt his depression had anything to do with his risk-taking, given that most people I know with depression (self included) are complete slugs when in the midst of an episode. When just managing to take a shower and get dressed are herculean efforts, going hang-gliding or whatever he was doing isn't too likely. :-) So maybe his depression was at bay at that time.

Excellent point candybear. I gave up the challenge of rock climbing when I got depressed and could no longer get joy from it or the spectacular views. It became way too much work just getting read to go. -hope you're all well-later, down

John Denver committed suicide by using his plane. I'm missing John Denver music Just read how depressed he had been prior to that day... and then that day he went into the "club house" or whatever and greeted everyone and said what a great day it was etc... and his plane had been functioning fine... anyway.. not just my opinion here...

I think you can whistle Country Roads... take me home...

Hey on PBS here in MO, last night they had a special on dedicated to John Denver, it was so beautiful..
IT was a nature show, with a whole bunch of his songs, so if you have a chance look up www.pbs.org
and it will give you maybe a link to buy the show. Most of the time you can buy the nature shows that they show on tv. I watched some of it, and it has some of his family in it, and many of his songs..
I hope you can find it..
if not tell me and I will contact the local station since I live in spfld where the local station is located and I can see if I can get ahold of a copy for you ok
