Does anyone here suffer from hypersomnia when depressed?? I do....I am currently sleeping 13-18 hours per day and I can't do less.

I was on Celexa 20 mg but it stopped working and have just been bumped up to 30....I have to be patient but in the mean time all I do is sleep. My life is wasting away. It is soooo frustrating. I can't work because I can't stay awake!!!

Anybody else suffer from this?

It depends, when I'm depressed, I usualy stay up as late as possible, and then after that sleep as much as my body will allow me without feeling so over-slept that you start to get nauseated and even more weary.

I don't know what you would call that...except a very unhealthy sleep-pattern. Hypersomnia (Excessive Sleeping)

Kind of like...right now (it's past 3:30am where I live right now as I type)

having been a 'night owl' almost all my life and prefer working 2nd/3rd shifts, i can understand the drawl to staying up late..... but having worked 1st and being up at 4:30 am for the last 12 years, it's tough for people to understand when i go through spells of needing little or none sleep....... got to the point that people were blaming me for acting more like a teen/college student then my age (late 30's- like i wanted to go around like a zombie!) but after having to leave work for personal reasons (a suicide attempt and full-time counseling for depression), members of my family are slowly coming around to understanding that the condition is real and that it's not a sign of laziness...... just wish they understood sooner.......

Yup I know all about that. I feel a lot of shame about how late I sleep most days and often catch myself fudging about it when I talk to T cuz I want her to think I am doing better or well. I take WellbutrinSR and Celexa, I forget the dosage. I know most people probably think I am lazy or spoiled but thats not it. that and my shame keeps me pretty isolated bordering on agoraphobic.

oh yeah - when I'd get out of the hospital last year on a weekend pass, I'd basically spend the entire weekend asleep. And when I wasn't working, or in some kind of treatment program that I had to be up for, I'd easily sleep 13-15 hours a day. Even now, that I'd say I'm mostly out of my depression, I still need a lot of sleep. It has gotten a lot better though since my depression has lifted.

Absolutely.

But I find that I WANT extra sleep when I'm depressed. In that case, I don't want to get out of bed. Plus, sleep is the only way I know how to stop thinking about all the things that I worry about, that drive me crazy.
