I've suffered from depression for many years, with multiple recurrences of major depressive episodes. I typically go a couple of years between major episodes.

Anyway, I've been sliding backward into the pit again, and my pdoc is trying to chop it off at the knees by giving me some different meds (always scary for me!).

Yesterday, she gave me a sample course of Provigil, which I'd never heard of before. I understand it's a stimulant; my doc says there is some clinical evidence that it can augment the ADs I take (Cymbalta, Lexapro) in about half the patients who try it.

My question: Anyone here take Provigil? Has it helped? Good/bad experiences?

Thanks!

I have never heard of it either, but sounds like Dr. wants to give your Dep. a kick in the butt. Exspically it be a stim. I know with me, when I near bottom, I have no energy, walk so slow think slow, you know the drill. Any how sounds like that is what she wants to do. I hope it works for ya,

Graystet, I have heard of it and its use as an adjunct to ADs.
The people I know who took it said it did help them...of course, ymmv.
They also said the initial days--as with any new med--were a wee bit weird, but it didn't take long for it to work.

My best wishes to you for this med to help you!

Thanks all for chipping your thoughts in ... I do get kinda touchy about med changes .... just have to trust the doc (and she has been good for me) and see how this goes. I have had extreme difficulty this time around with the depression with total inability/desire to do ANYTHING, like even get out of bed.

Also just tired of the fact that I still get dragged down in the hole. Don't want to do this again, ya know?
