I resolved, on my 30th birthday, that I am going to learn how to say 'no.' It is hard to stop being concerned about everything, but I am learning to turn around and walk away.

Most times I feel the same way. That ppl want me aroundf just for what they can get from me. Well, I was not put here on this earth to be liked or disliked. I dont care if I'm the most popular/prettiest/wealthiest/etc. person in the room. I am who I am, and that's good enough for me. The only person I have to please is myslef.
But it does hurt when I feel all alone in a roomful of people. Like I'm being ignored or shut out. Been feeling that alot lately.

I also agree with what has been said. Being a doormat is not fun nor is it healthy for you. And, yes, The Dance of Anger, is a great source. I have read and heard it twice. I believe I like to listen to it better than to read it. She (the author ) has also written other books that hone right in on problems such as ours. You are a human being - you need to take care of yourself and put your needs first. I understnad wanting to keep the peace so you agree to everything - I have been there and I still fall into that trap on a frequent basis - but I am learning to respect myself more and more and to make certain that I take care of "me" in order to have something of value to share with others.
