I think we need meds that CAUSE depression and OCD.
Why? 1. I ran out of one of my five meds, Dexedrine, a week early. My new doctor switched it from a pill to a capsule. I've taken three 10 mg pills/day for decades, and so I took three capsules/day, not realizing the capsules are 15 mg and I was supposed to take only two. 2. Recently my toes, then my fingers and lips, and finally ALL my skin went numb. Google says it's a rare side effect of Clomipramine (I've taken it for decades - why now?!). My new doctor told me to stop it cold turkey. Once, years ago, I ran out of Clomipramine and didn't refill it immediately; I crashed, ended up in an ER, and was nearly admitted. It's been a rough week, very hard on me and my family. The doctor won't do anything, and the insurance company won't fill the new prescription early - not even ONE day. If they could experience serious depression and OCD, they would be more supportive. So, as part of their training, I believe they should take meds that briefly cause the symptoms of these illnesses. |

I think it'd be great if people 'understood' us better, but I wouldn't wish this on anybody.
Hope you're feeling better soon and your med confusion is sorted out ![]() take care, Molly

This is the original author continuing:
I just googled for "clomipramine tinnitus", since I have tinnitus (it appeared out of the blue three years ago). Guess what? Clomipramine can cause tinnitus! I mentioned my tinnitus to my new doctor, but he didn't make the connection with clomipramine. At least four doctors have had the opportunity to spot this. Back to my toes and fingers going numb, mentalhealth.com also says "peripheral neuropathy has been reported with other tricyclic antidepressants" as well - so it's not such a unique event after all. That web goes on to list other side effects I've had, and says clomipramine shouldn't be taken with thyroid medicine, which my sister does. Last edited by Willy Goose; Nov 21, 2008 at 07:43 PM. |

I am sorry that you are having problems with your meds, this sounds like something that you should take up with a doctor immediately. I am glad that you have researched this, it sounds like you have gained a lot of new information that may help you out. ![]()
