Hi everyone,
I just joined and need some advice. I started feeling sad, hopeless and depressed sins about the 9th grade but I was generally fine till now (I'm now 23) Now all of a sudden I am moody (the smallest things will just make me extremely angry), sad, feels like I have no purpose or not going forward and it is just getting worse this year. I'm having trouble sleeping lately, I sleep well for a week or two then all of a sudden I'm waking up nearly every hour and rolling around then I am tired the whole day and I have trouble concentrating and remembering things. My boss will ask where a file is and then I cannot remember until a few min later but I just had it. Do we have to be on meds or can something els help? ![]() |

Hi Melis85, welcome to PC!
Everyone is different and get the most help out of different things. A lot of people find that it's actually a combination of things that help get them out of their depression. For me it was meds, an amazing counsellor and a few lifestyle changes. Have you been to see a doctor or a mental health professional about how you're feeling? If you really don't want to go on meds, they would be the best ones to ask about alternative treatments if you're depressed. The meds aren't generally that bad, or at least they weren't for me. Is there a particular reason you don't want them? Also, have you tried talking to anyone about how you're feeling? Sometimes it helps just to unload, vent for a while to a friend or family member who supports you, especially if you think there's something specific triggering all this. I would still suggest that you talk to a professional right away. There are physical problems that can also present with symptoms of depression, and it's always good to get checked out and get that out of the way, then you can decide where you want to go from there. Good luck! ![]()

I think it's a personal choice, but what I would advise is going to a professional to get some advice.
Some to check if anything physical is going on, some to talk about mental stuff. So maybe, general doctor and psychdoctor or therapist?

Welcome to PC
![]() I agree that it's a personal choice. You don't have to go on meds if you don't want to, but they may be beneficial to you. Also, meds are different with everyone, some work better and are more suited to a person than others. It's best really to talk to your doctor about this as theyd have a better idea and understanding about this. Good luck and take care ![]() Molly
