Yipee Marilyn you are doing great with those readings.
Thanks for sharing the information about Metformin. I had not heard anything about it where I live. I suppose we will just have to sit tight and wait and see what happens.

Yep Possum, there is no point in panic over the metformin scare, it's dangerous to just stop taking it.

I am doing good again today with the sugar control.I just did my before dinner reading and it's 109mg which is 6.1 mmol/L.

I am worried about my blood sugar getting too low and me going unconscious so I am going to stop taking the Gliclazide, it was the last medication they
added to my regime so I will deduct it. I tried to ring and ask my diabetic nurse they wouldn't let me talk to her I have to book a telephone appointment and they haven't got any until 30 December which is ridiculous cos I am booked in to see her on 2 January. It is stupid cos they didn't tell her what I wanted to ask properly so they dismissed that my blood sugar has dropped a lot saying that doesn't happen. I was so annoyed. So I just have to adjust my meds without their advice. It's not my fault they wouldn't let me talk to her.

i had my A1C checked last week and its down to 7.9 from 8.6 . So the endo should be happy when i see her next week.
I started my diabetes education on Friday and have 2 more 3 hour blocks the next 2 fridays.
It is making me so tired they want me to eat every 4-5 hrs. and i am not used to that. There is so much i need to change and do now, it seems i am always tired.

Tamster, high blood sugars make you tired, try eat less and leave longer between meals, don't eat a lot of carbs and avoid white flour products and pasta, try not to eat too much bread, eat more vegetables and some protein. If you are overweight try and lose weight.

I hope you can sort things out soon Marilyn. If you are going to stop taking that medication is it possible to halve the dose so that things dont swing back too much the other way? Just a thought.

Maybe you can get more tips to help you in the next few sessions Tamster. Hang in there.

Possum,I rang our NHS advice line and a doctor was meant to get back to me on the phone tonight to advise me but they didn't call. I reckon I will stop the med they put me on when my readings were sky high ,the Glicazide and carry on with the Metformin and sitagliptin which is what I was taking last time my readings were where they are now. Then I can discontinue the metformin and sitagliptin when I lose more weight. The NHS advise line bloke said the doctor would probably tell me to reduce a tablet at a time so I guess what I am going to do is going to be ok. Thanks for your input though much appreciated. The last thing I want is for my readings to go sky high again! But the NHS advice line guy said I'd done really well and if I carry on like I am I am heading towards reversing my diabetic state, he said a friend of his did what I'm doing really low carbs and low fat and moderate protein and he reversed his diabetes. He said as I lose weight I will have normal blood sugars and greatly improve my health.

It's 6am now, the out of hours doctor rang me tonight, early hours at 4.30am,asked me questions about how I was ,said I did the correct thing to reduce the Glicazide and said to only take one a day of that now and he said I was to ring my diabetic nurse tomorrow ,which is today now, and insist she review my diabetic medications. So I will do that.
I feel so much better, I am pleased with myself. The doctor said I had done well but to be careful with the diet so as not to cause more problems. Not to restrict my eating any further he said.

I am still doing well with my blood sugar, today it is between 8mmol/L and 11.0mmol/L which is 144mg to 198mg.Not the ideal normal but still within normal range and ok not a risk to my eye sight....I feel relieved that my diet is back under control and I have eliminated sugar and stopped my sugar addiction. I am losing weight which I am pleased about.

I started Trulicity on Tuesday night , its a once a week injectable. She kept me on the glipizide, and actos.
The bigger change is my pdoc agreed to stop the Seroquel, the likely culprit that got the DM2 rolling. I was put on Saphris in its place along with geodon.
The Trulicity made me fatigued fast but it passed, and i feel better now.
I took my 2nd of 3 classes for diabetes, today label reading yikes!!

Hi Tamster. I have been taking Trulicity for a few months now. The nausea was really bad at the start but seems to have lessened as time goes on. I find it has been really good a keeping me feeling fuller for longer. Plus it did decrease my BSLS.
Only issue I have now is forgetting to take the top off before injecting myself. That normally means that less that a full dose gets in. Grrr. Silly possum.

Possum i am sorry you had nausea but good to hear it got better. I watched a youtube vid on doing the injection so i knew to take the top off. I had no nausea with the first shot but was fatiqued for that night and the next day. But at the same time i was withdrawing from seroquel and introducing saphris, so its hard to be sure what caused that feeling.
my fasting this morning was much better, about 120 and the day before it was 223 so maybe its helping.
Warmest regards, Tams

Today I spent time with my chosen family for christmas. I was given two large boxes of chocolates and a box of fudge. Oh and I forgot two jars of homemade jam.

As a chocoholic and a diabetic it makes it hard. Grrr. There is so much of it around. I suppose it's the same with alcohol this time of year. Surrounded by it and not able to say no. Ai Ai Ai.......... it's hard enough to control what I eat without the added food in the house.

Previous times I have thrown food in the bin....... then hours later I go bin diving.

OMG !!!
a box of fudge my bs just went up dreaming of fudge.
I think my new med the trulicity is starting to work i had a bs of 115 today, it was a late day fasting because i ate early in the morning and didn't eat until late after 8pm. but all the same it was 115.
This morning it was 190 so a nice drop. i am sure the other meds helped out too.
At least i hope so.
Possum220 i know those treats are hard to pass up , maybe just a dab of jam on toast and skip the chocolates. Listen to me i cheat all the time, i am here if you want to talk it thru.
hugs, Tams

I bought a crate of werthers sugar free soft caramels. I HAVE to limit myself to one serving - 5 pieces, 90 kcal - per day, or else there are consequences! Otoh, 5 candies over the course of a day is a LOT compared to nothing! But i need to check their effect on my fasting blood sugar. Having one or two when i have a middle of the night pee break so far is lowering it slightly.
Thanks for this!

This week I managed to inject the Trulicity properly. Trulicity really does slow down the appetite. According to my doctor my bsl meter has died so I am not able to check my blood sugar levels atm. Does that let me off the hook? I am just kidding myself if I think it does. Today I had a fruit mince pie with lunch. I cheat all the time Tamster. I wish I could be good but obviously not enough to stop. Least I haven't touched the chocolates or fudge today. Maybe it's a food hangover from yesterday.

It is good that the Trulicity is working for you Tamster. Yay.

How big is a crate of werthers caramels unaluna? I have tried sugar free peppermints and if I overdo it on those there are dire consequences.
Thanks for this!

I think its about ten bags, each bag has 2 and a half servings. So its virtually limitless. Meaning, it MUST last more than a week.

I think i might try to train myself not to procrastinate with these guys. Because you CAN reward yourself, but just with ONE.

I am afraid I fell off the wagon and my blood sugar has gone up to 27.8 which is 500mg.
It has gone sky high cos I ate chocolate covered profriterols and I drank advocaat and prosecco.
I also ate a roast dinner and stuffing and had white flour French stick with soup.
So not good compared to when my blood sugar came down to 6mmol/L or 108mg.
So tomorrow I go back to my strict diet and back to staying off the sugar.

You give me hope Marilyn. It's not an easy thing to do but you are doing it.
It's T day here. Need to remember to take that darn cap off before injecting.
Also time to clean out the fridge. There are a few shades of grey in there.

Managing to stay off the sugar for the majority of the time have had a couple of slip ups drank fruit juice and had a chocolate bar
and also once in the last two moths I had two slices cake, vegan raspberry and chocolate cake from Starbucks,it's delicious.
I kinda think it's ok to allow it once every three months. My blood sugar is averaging 180mg or 10 mmol/L.So I still have to get it down.

Hello one and all. Hope you are all tracking well.
Trulicity makes me so very tired and often thirsty. It is hard to keep the water up to stay on top of it. A little while back I had a blood test done and they just got enough blood to do the one test. Tomorrow I am getting my quarterly BAC1 levels checked and a few other yearly ones that my gp wants done. I will need to drink heaps from now to make sure there is enough blood to get.

Good news is that since I wrote about it here I have successfully injected myself with the Trulicity each time.

How are you all going?

I got my blood sugars down again after the Christmas blip.Having a diabetic review done next week, where they will do blood test to check my AHC1's
hopefully it will be an improvement of the 14.7 of last time and my cholesterol was high too.Let's see what the result s are when they come back.
My readings last two days were between 180 and 144,it varies it can go up to 270,but mostly keeping it down.
It is much better than before November last year when I was constantly in the 480 and my eye sight was at risk with diabetic macular.I urge you all that have type 2 diabetes to gain control of your blood sugars to avoid losing your sight and other complication.I have gained control of my eating habits and sugar addictions so that is good progress.
