I don't know if I'd be of any help because I'm not, but I'm somewhat familiar with it because my brother tested HIV positive in 1991.

If you ever need to talk I am here.
Thanks for this!

Paddym, I am dealing with a brother who has been diagnosed HIV. I think he had the disease for a long time, but was in denial until late last year. I reside in the midwest. He lives in the west. I talk to him almost every day. I was devastated to also learn that he was sexually abused by our stepfather when he was younger. I am having a hard time dealing with the situation, and I feel that is selfish when he is the one with HIV.

Paddy,

I just wanted to throw in my thoughts too. I don't have HIV, but do have quite a few friends who do.. one who was a stellar drag queen in our circle of friends, and quite well known.. She(he? not sure whats correct it always differs) did a lot of fund raising for the cause over the years. There was a celebration of her life afterward, and it was incredible to see the support she garnered in her time.

The reason i mentioned that is it makes me so happy to see that those with the disease no longer have to be sick all the time, or hidden from public, or anything. Really it is no different than the immune disorder I have. Its just an illness. Yes you have to be careful with blood and things like that but hell, how often does someone bleed around you really.

Anyways, if you ever need someone to talk to or rant or vent or just share with, send me a pm. Im listening, and I care
Thanks for this!

Paddy,

Count me in on the support band wagon! I've lost so many treasured friends over the years sometimes I'm hesitant to get close anymore. But you sound like you've got your head on square - taking care of yourself and all. So, I'm good with that.

I'm glad you're doing what it takes to stay healthy.
