how many alters do you have?

how many alters do you have? why do I ask?... because I seem to have only one alter... and I'm curious if there's someone else who has only one. I'm interested in how you all have it - at least a little scratch on the surface.

I hope you don't see this as a strange question...
l post this with great anticipation as the last time l posted in here l feel that l upset some people which was not my intention. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about DID/MPD.

Don't think #s are too important, but we are 16 at last count.

10 is our number at present but who knowseach time we think we know all is here then alass that doesnt seem to be the case

I am personally down to 1 main alter with a few fragments.
.... I use to have around 15 + alters.

I dont have alters anymore, all 25 of them integrated with me. The only time I percieved myself as having only one alter was before I became aware that there were many others already there and also near the end of my integration process where all except one had integrated. even then though that one did not stay unintegrated very long at all.possibly a week or two after all the others had been integrated that last one joined with me to also become one with me.

I have only one, Eric is my alter. He is a 9 year old boy. He likes candy and going camping. I love him and he loves me but, he is an attention grabber. If someone tries to make him go away, he gets angry.

He is my protector and I am his. We get along great at times and then there are times I have to be firm with him. Sometimes we make deals with each other........Eric, we'll get some candy if you stop being mean to people. Eric, we'll go to the park and ride the bike if you let me read for a while. Stuff like that.

I don't ever want to get rid of him or intergrate. He is my joy.

Maybe were the Freak, we have way over 50. But what you guys all have to remember...YOU Only Create the Amount YOU NEED to SURVIVE! I was told that by someone who is a Incredible Therapist!

weve got bout 15 alters an some fragments but there usta b more of us an we dont know where they went but we havent seen them in a long time...

I would like to thank you all for your response to this thread. I see you all as very strong human beings - being able to fight the past along with fighting hard for the future.

we had lots and lots and lots. lots were fragments who did just one small thing. lots aren't needed anymore so we don't have so many now and we dont dissociate much anymore, and nearly all of the time we are coconsious.

so I don't know if I should say how many there were or how many there are now.

We have over 50 also, and have not yet integrated any, there are also some fragments. We are just now working on getting to know and accept ourselves as being who we are. For me, I am trying to get to know my system so I can work to bring everyone closer so that we can do the work to heal. It is a long road, but a road I am willing to walk.

As was mentioned , each has their personalities , strengths and weaknesses . Sometimes [ IMO ] bi-polar Dx has a way of confusing ,, if it be a protector or a product of the bi-polar >>.. ie. [ again IMO ] intermittent explosive disorder , .

There be one here who is logical , a matter of fact type ,, non-emotional .
Then there are two , whom seem to have low emotional thresholds when left to be seperate , but more stable if in unison .
When all is at any moment ,, relaxed , the joyful and careing two seem content , [ a moment can last anywhere from an hour or so ,, to months . ]
All seem to know there origins , and abilities .

Wasn't always that way though .

Yep, that's all I got, me and Eric. There are lots of folks that have many and lots of folks that have just one. My Pdoc told me long ago that I was the most classic case of dual personality he ever met.

Some people knw me by my real name and others know me as Eric and I answer to both. My wife dosen't like Eric so much because he can be a mean little bugger. She tells him to go away when he starts up and he goes to the park or for a walk or bike ride.

We have several Eriks, I being one of them. You and Eric can talk to us anytime!
