It is a good idea for anyone with a mental health problem to seek professional help but especially so if you think you may have a dissociative disorder.
The reason why I say this is, once it has been diagnosed by a professional then the outlook can look real good. Dissociative disorders in particular do well with talking therapies (with a competent understanding therapist.) If you have DID, the duration of therapy can be anywhere between three to five years or longer, but it is truly worth doing. ![]()

I will agree with you on the need for a trained therapist for DID. DID can be one of the most frightening disorders when it is triggered. It can also be very unsafe if one has an alter who is SU or holds too much anger. Thank you for the excellent post reminding folks of the importance of trained help. I just wish more organizations would step forward and offer to help those who are impoverished obtain the help they truly need.

We live in Australia and sadly it is a disorder seen by many
especially goverment doctors and the hospitals as an "American" disorder and refuse to speak with alters as it is "not condusive to our treatment" but luckly we did find someone again it took 16yrs but we found her sadly we had to leave her behind when we moved interstate. I am not sure of how doctors see it in the states only here in Australia.

As it stands right now.....my eyes have opened......and my interior world is totally different......its all me......its all me..... .............. ![]() |

I agree pegasus
![]() I have been with T two years, and we are just starting to understand the system, who is there, everyone's roles. Even with the little bit of understanding I have, life is so much better and so much easier than it used to be. I am even present for a lot more of it. Good therapy is so important ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

yes we agree that a T is good. the best ones are thoughs that are willing to allow each part to heal and grow each time we had a T that refused to talk with a part it crashed us. so please make sure you have one that will work with all of you.
