Hi,
I'm whimsical and this is my first time coming here (I think). Sometimes I lose track of time and so I may come and go. I have a DD and I'm trying to find people who can understand what that's like. Even though I have a big family (4 adult children, 7 grandchildren) no one knows about my struggles with Dissociation. I do have a therapist, and I'm working very hard to find inner cooperation. I've read a lot of the posts here, and I hope I can find a place in this community.
Thank you for reading this.

Whimsical:

I hope you are finding some help reading here. I don't think the family and friends knowing is very important, all at one time. As a matter of fact, I don't think it is all that easy for them to understand at all. After all it took time for me to understand what was going on. I think it must be like having some chronic physical illness, not everyone knows everything about it and some will never get it.

But, I hold out hope for those around me who care to know and really want to give me a hand. They are the ones who seem to love me despite what is going on but when they actually have some insight it is a wonderful thing.

I think like other conditions, for example, cancer uses daffodils, we should have a flower that represents us, DD all the way to DID. I think someday there will be a race or walk, for raising fund for research, understanding and mostly treatment.

One of my therapists says there seems to be a lot of effort placed on diagnosis and there should be more emphasis put on treatment. It can be a lonely condition and mostly people who are acquaintances of mine don't even know. But, that is hardly a way to live life to fullest. Some here have advanced the cause in their own communities at great cost, others are still just trying to find a therapist. The important relatives in my life know and accept me anyway. The ones who don't are struggling with their own issues and frankly they are not terribly safe for me to be near anyway.

How are you today?

Hunny
