This is not just about PTSD. I was reading and found this information in the article Mansell, P. and Read, J. (2009) Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Drug Companies, and the Internet, Journal of Trauma & Dissociation, 10(1) 9–23.*

The following is an excerpt:
Website Selection

In June 2007, Google and Yahoo! were searched by entering “posttraumatic
stress disorder,” producing nearly 3 million results. The first 60 websites
were identified from each search engine. Of these 120 websites, 54 were
included for analysis (see Table 1). Website exclusion was due to duplication
(websites appearing in both Google and Yahoo! were recorded only
once), an exclusive focus on children or adolescents, insufficient content,
and content only obtained by links to external websites or several external
articles.

Funding Categorization
Websites were classified as DCF if they were drug company sites, displayed drug company advertisements, acknowledged financial support from one or more drug companies, or acknowledged drug companies as partners. Otherwise they were classified as non-DCF.

Website Categorization
Websites were classified into eight categories: government, nongovernmental
organization (NGO), professional (organizations and individuals), consumer
(websites run by families, carers, and/or supporters of individuals with a
mental illness, and individuals with PTSD), media, education (any website
connected to an educational institute, including medical colleges, universities,
and academic journals), business (including websites that stated they were a company or owned by a company, that did not state they were nonprofit; and sites run by professionals who were promoting their services), and drug company (sites owned by drug companies).

I've taken an antidepressant and Klonapin since I was dx'd with DID(MPD) in 1994. Recently I have been questioning taking medication and I have been reading.I don't know if I want to try life without meds but the seed of an idea has been planted to try that. I am reading about therapy with meds and therapy w/o meds and I came across this info.

I thought someone might be interested since I was. Here is the table. Or if you want to see it bigger go see the whole article via the link.

Thank you for the post. I have tried meds off and on these past years when things have gotten to loud for us but meds just seemed to make things worst until we got off them again then the releif from the avalance being on meds made things seem so much calmer. If you can understand that. For those with in we may grumble of being to many soul parts but the truth we really do not know what to do when we can not communicate with each other.

Each of our bodies are different and medications will effect each of us differently from each other. For us since so many around us have mistreated us and the loudness of the abusse issues each time a part came out that SI we could not step in nor did we have the ability to pull ourselvs together.
Most meds work the same on us. So work with the dr. Just be aware of the fact that for us meds rebuild the inner walls allowing us to have more black out spells and more abuse by those around us.
We did go on med on and off these past years and it did help slow down the loud eposoded but the meds only worked good for us when we were not in an abusive situtation.

Thank you for posting. I for so long was on medications and nothing was getting better. Some within did not think they needed the medication and would not take it. Some would hide it from me and I thought I was taking it until I found it. Although I do take something for anxiety as it is really high especially when memories come and things get going, and it does help.

My Pdoc and I together decided that taking medication did not work. We all do better not taking it. For us we did not know who needed or did not need what. I do not know if I am making any sense. Sometimes I feel very depressed but others within do not feel it. There are times that they can feel something others do not feel. It is hard to explain but not taking it on a constant level was not good or helpful.

For myself I do not want to feel out of it. I need and want to be able to work through and feel what I need to feel so we can work through this. That drugged feeling so many times triggered and made things worse for us. I think that it is something that each person needs to talk with their doc about and to keep them informed as to how you are feeling so together you can make that decision.

Thank you for sharing and know that you are not alone in wondering what is best. For a long time I questioned and asked. For now this is the best for myself and all within. The most important thing is to talk with your doc about it and be open with how you feel. Sending gentle hugs and loving thoughts. Always.
