I don't want to get anyone triggered with details, so all I'm going to say about the surgery is it's a woman's type surgery and just leave it at that.

I've been dx'ed DID now for 12 yrs and I know my pieces fairly well. I've never had anything but dental stuff done. Which went OK, there an hour then ya home and no worries. But I have to have major surgery now with a 1-2 night stay in the hospital. I found out the end of Jan what was happening, but I've put off the surgery until I met with the doc again in April. I just needed time to get ahold of what the doc was telling me and to get my pieces ready.

I'm looking for any help with getting my pieces ready inside with what's about to happen. I have to go the hospital in April for an internal ultrasound and then met with the doc again a few days later to see how fast and how large the tumors are then. I know that they are large enough now to be causing problems. So I know I'll have to do another exam then. I check out when I go to my appointments and I don't hear everything I need to be hearing. Thing is I don't have anyone who can go with me or do I feel comfortable to have another person in the room as well. My doc asked me to come back with written questions, can you all think of anything else I might be able to do?

Sorry, Monty girl, I'm not clear. Are you trying to figure out what questions to ask doc while rumors ane being viewed? How to explain results to inners & what resulting surgery will involve? Both?

LOL...kind of everything. Just really looking for advice on how to explain to my alts., this is what's going to be happening, there's going to be a lot of different ppl around who are going to have to get close to us and do things. I'm OK, with one on one with a person, but if I have a lot of ppl around me having to do different things I tend to melt down really fast.

With asking doc questions, does anyone know how to stay as present as possible to get the questions asked?

With it being a female surgery and problem it's a lot harder to not be triggered with everything being said and done. Just looking for advice on how to get through this without ending up just completely nutz and going to my dark place.

(((MG)))) My advice is to create a safe room in your system, some type of a conference room or a play room. Have the alters all come together in that place and have them find a friend with one of the other alters. It works better if it is a stronger alter with a child alter or that type of counter balance. Then have the teams come up with a plan on what they will do when the system is going through the surgery. How will the older or stronger alter take care of the younger alter? How will the younger alter let the older alter know if they become afraid?

This type of partnership internally can really help in many situations :-)

I had major surgery a few years ago and was afraid of a major meltdown. My therapist contacted the hospital where I was having the surgery and asked for a psych resident to monitor me before and after the surgery. When I first woke up, I started to panic but the doctor kindly asked if I was ok and what he could do for me. They also arranged for a private room on a private floor of the hospital (that I later found out my t arranged and had paid for) It all went much better than I hoped as other surgeries scared all inside. I attempted to tell the doctors and nurses in previous surgeries and that didn't work out well as they thought it was a big joke.
Good luck I hope it goes well for you.
