I'm really confused what I'm going through. I feel completely out of touch with reality. I was recently diagnosed with psychosis, but I don't really know why. I was hearing voices + hallucinating in the beginning, but they seem to have faded away. Now I just feel completely detached and as if I'm looking at through a camera lens of a horrible dream/movie. I've tried to talk to my psychiatrist about Dp, but they have no clue what it is or about. How do you really know if it's something you're going through?

Quote:
in the diagnostic book treatment providers in america use for the diagnostics of psychotic disorders hallucinations and delusions are part of the diagnostics where as the diagnostics for depersonalization does not include hallucinations and hearing voices. you can see more differences in the two by going to the DSM 5 website for the presently used depersonalization diagnostic criteria click on DSM IV tab http://www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevision...on.aspx?rid=58 for psychotic disorders again click on DSM iv tab for the presently used diagnostics http://www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevision...n.aspx?rid=146 |

Yea that's a tuffy. I have a good friend who is schizophrenic and she often feels detached and stuff, like me, but she doesn't have a dissociative disorder... but it's also possible to have one...

I'm not discrediting my psychiatrist, but I don't believe I have psychosis. The voices/hallucinations/delusions were very minor and didn't last long at all. Now they're completely gone, but I still feel very out of touch with everything. Things seem unreal and dream-like. Almost like someone else is looking out of my eyes, watching all of these strange things happen...

I just wanted to point out that it's possible to have a psychotic episode, but not experience psychosis all the time. Maybe this is what happened?
I agree with Crew though, if you are really not confident in a diagnosis, it's okay to get a second opinion from another professional. ![]() |
