It's only lunch time but it feels like I've had a whole day of it. We spent yesterday shopping for elder daughter's trip to Tenessee. She's going with a team from school to compete in the Global finals of Destination Imagination. Today she had an audition for one of the county orchestras. She is a cellist. The audition was about 20 minutes away. Fortunately we were very early, because we got there and she realised she had forgotten her bow!!! So I turned round, dashed back home and back to the audition, doing the round trip in 40 minutes and arriving just in time for her to go in to her audition. Gulp!
Back home afterwards and I have been making the team t-shirts. I really want to do some card making or scrapbooking today but first I have to do some marking and lesson preparation. I have lots of nice things to put in my boosts book, but I have to get the work out of the way first. Anyone want to plan my lessons for me?

That sounds great, Anne. I did a very skimpy job on my planning and have spent some time making cards and doing my boost book. That was very soothing. I haven't tackled any marking yet but may do so tonight. I need to get an early night - I am so tired again at the moment.
Take care

Thanks, atg! I could do with the sleep, I think. Trouble is, there is always so much that needs to be done. Roll on half term - not that it will be especially restful, I fear.

Unfortunately it's a Maths test and I have to hand the marks in. But you have a point...

Or I could give them all Cs!!!

Oh my goodness! What a day!!!!

I hope you get some rest. The trouble with grading math is that it's so detailed.

It's amazing that one person can do so much work in one day! You definately need a nap or at the very least, cookies and milk! Busy day

Hugs,

Jan

Thanks, Jan

Yes, the maths papers are pretty hard work to grade and I have a class who will notice if I make a single mistake. There are 60 marks for each paper and I have 30 papers to mark, then the results to enter onto my laptop. Ugh!

I did get cups of tea from my daughters today ... especially the elder one after I had the dash to fetch her bow for her!

Cups of tea are wonderful gifts!!!!!

Smart students do keep teachers on their toes! Do you give partial credit when they get the formulas right but mess up on something simple like addition or subtraction?

I know you told us the name of the competition Eleanor is going to be in here, but I don't know what it is. Please enlighten us! Busy day

Hugs,

Jan

Hi Jan

It's a standardised test so I have a very detailed mark scheme I have to follow. Yes, they do get credit for correct strategies etc. It all makes it quite complex to mark.

Eleanor's competition is Destination Imagination. Their website is at http://www.globalfinals.org/
I'm hoping they will post photos and news throughout the competition as they did last year.

Did you get your work done? Sorry, I sat around on the couch and did some drawing and watched "Band of Brothers". Then went to my son's Band Banquet for school.

I certainly hope this week slows down for you Busy day Schools almost over (I think?).

Hugs,
Songbird

Busy dayCaroline Busy day

I guess you could look at it this way - I don't get a summer vacation. Just work. Being a teacher has it's advantages and disadvantages Busy day Of course, when I leave the hospital (unless I'm on call) I don't have to grade papers and what not. So, it must even out somehow.

My daughter finished her freshman year of college two weeks ago and my son finishes his freshman year of high school in two weeks. So, I guess that means summer is coming - I wish the temperature would reflect that - BBBBRRRRRR

Hugs,
Songbird

Yes, we have had a run of cold and wet days - yet at the same time they keep telling us we have a drought! I can't figure it out myself.

As far as the work goes, I am sure it does even itself out. My psychologist told me, however, that teaching comes very high on the list of stressful occupations - alongside nursing. He said if I wanted a stress free job I should have gone into librarianship!

The job I applied for I wouldn't have had a summer holiday either, but like you said I wouldn't have had to grade papers or cope with many of the other stresses.

I do enjoy my job, but I don't enjoy the constant pressure. It almost never goes away. Even int he holidays I do school work - and this holiday I will have a lot of school work to do.

Ho hum! Back to looking at the job adverts
