hey.
i'm wondering if anyone here has out of body experiences, and if so- if you all can give me tips on how to prevent it from happening when i feel it coming on i've been experiencing them a lot lately along with flashbacks (the flashbacks and out of body experiences happen at the same time) so suggestions on how to stop them when i feel they will start would be awsome. thanks.. |

I know people who have, not sure if they felt they could have stopped it. What do you feel before it happens? what signs? Grounding yourself consciously may help, if you can go bare foot onto the grass/ground - this often grounds us. Also eating/drinking - doing something physical - helps us to ground in our physical body.

The first what I thought was a flashback turned out to be a severe panic attack from what I was told. I sat in the middle of my room and rocked myself until I could handle everything again...scarey. I was told to wear a rubber band on my wrist and if I started feeling this again to give it a big snap, more if needed...ouch. I haven't had many, tried the band, worked sometimes but usually go internal and rock and sing James Brown's, I Feel Good song. That works for me......Out of body, strongest one was from a drug overdose...no control there. I have meditated and intentionally left. Prevention, not sure, a key word or phrase??? Hopefully better informed people will chime in.

It is quite difficult to describe these things I know, or to understand why it is happening. It can be viewed from a 'spiritual' experience - that is why I said I would like to experience it, to know that our 'spirit' will leave our body when we die. Or, from a 'mental illness' perspective - when you really don't want this to happen and find it frightening and traumatic. Could be side effects of meds etc. Maybe, if the 'fear' is removed, if you felt safe and understood what was happening - it would be easier to deal with. If you are familiar with the 'Chakra's' - energy centres? the description you gave would be relating to your solar plexus - this energy centre is our 'power' centre, also fear, anxiety, stress. trauma can be held here. If you feel it coming on again, try the methods I suggested above. It's about being 'grounded' in the physical. Hope that doesn't confuse you further ![]() Warm wishes.....

CHAKRA’S There are seven major chakra’s in a straight line down the centre of the body, each corresponding to a colour of the rainbow, a gland, an area of the body – each have different functions. There are also many minor chakra’s, the most important of these – for Reiki healing are the chakra’s located in the palms of each hand. The crown chakra vortice faces upwards. The forehead (third eye), throat, heart, solar plexus and sacral have an energy vortice facing both to the front and to the back of the body. The front vortices work at the conscious level and the vortices at the back of the body work at the sub conscious level. The base chakra vortice faces downwards from the base of the spine. The linking to the endocrine system is important to understand and gives us an indication of where the blockage or imbalance is within the body. ![]() So, Chakra's are our 'energy' centres....

(((shattered sanity)))
I really don't like those out of body experiences, everything feels and sounds very foreign to me. They seem to occur when I'm dealing with a lot of stuff at once. Does the T that you're seeing have decent experience with dissociation? If so, perhaps you can try bringing up specific descriptions of the experiences, to give him/her a better understanding of where you currently are emotionally. I'd advise you to be honest about the fact that it scares the bejeezers out of you & you need help in developing techniques to making these events occur less often (with less intensity as well). If he/she doesn't have any words of wisdom on this concept, perhaps you should find another T with a greater understanding of the disorder. ![]() ![]() ![]()

shattered sanity,
I see two things here with one answer. One, you are experiencing a symptom of DID (feel like you are standing outside of yourself watching yourself do things) or two you are experiencing astral projection. I don’t believe there is a ’cure’ as such but grounding yourself may help. You can ground yourself by having something around you to focus on or to read aloud when you feel this out of body experience coming on. It’ll take a bit of practise but it does work - most of the time. ![]() |

Your best bet is to learn more about astral projection and techniques for inducing it intentionally, and how to work with the experiences when they happen.
http://www.astraldynamics.com.au/content.php The astral projection experience tends to involve strong emotions. These can be strong positive emotions, as you learn to go to happier places while out of body. You can bring those positive emotions back with you. |

Being dissociative I have had many "out of body"experiences. at least I did before I learned how to control it by using grounding. grounding is focusing on things outside yourself to keep your self in your body and not numb, spacy and outside your self.
one of my favorites is boating on the lake. the physical act of rowing keeps me in tune with how my muscles are feeling physically as they push the our into the water, the waters resistance also helps because once I get up some speed its harder and harder to push that our down into the water as the water is pushing past the our, the smells of the outdoors and sounds of nature keep calling to my ears nose to discover what that smell is, what that noise is... another activity I enjoy is gardening, the feel and scent of the earth, nature noises and all that comes with gardening keeps me grounded because its focusing on things outside my body. grounding is using anything outside yourself to keep you firmly planted within your body and in the present moment. |
