we are having a get together today for my mothers 70th birthday. Lunch. I hate these things, we all do. Im just gonna clock watch and try to keep controll of myself. It just brings out the worse on all of me. We meet at 3 pm this afternoon. Im not going to lose it. If i say this often enough it might be true

 Sorry girls. I know this will be hard. It's about 3:30 right now on Mars and I am sending you happy vibes. Will there at least be cake? Cake is good. Focus on that.

What I do when I am on the verge of saying what I really think at those kinds of get togethers is stick another bite of food in my mouth and concentrate on chewing. It works.

it was a huge cake. It had happy 70th birthday mum on it. Oh im glad its over.

Can empathise with the pain and discomfort of family gatherings. Mostly just ignore them but then there are the calls trying to lay guilt and pain. Either one stinks.
Glad you got through it and that there was cake.
