Hello. I may as well get to know you guys in here. I was diagnosed with DID about 6 months ago, but I have been showing signs for a few years now. I am the host, J. I have 6 insiders. I can list and describe them all if you want, just let me know. I am very open with people online about my disorder. I have no problem answering questions or anything like that. In person, however, that's a different subject. I typically don't let a lot of people know that I have it. My husband knows, but isn't very receptive to it. My family knows, but seeing as my parents care for my 6-yr old son, I felt they should know.

I don't really know what else to say...

Welcome to PC Airfobrat. You can share your story at Psych Central, but I am not an expert on DID so telling me might not get you more than a good venting.
My first impression is you might want to seek out a psychiatrist to see if medication could help stabilize the situation.
A therapist also could be a help.
Not letting people know as you revealed here is a smart move. People tend to put people in categories when they don't understand.
When you say insiders, would you describe them as voices?
Since you don't have a lot of people to turn to, it seems necessary to seek out professional help that can guide you through the situation.
It is Friday night and so maybe over the weekend you might get another post from someone here at PC.

Hi airfrobrat
I was diagnosed DID at the beginning of this year. I spent three years in therapy with a therapist who did not understand the illness but suspected it along with a psychiatrist Who suspected it but neither did anything to address it. It just made my anxiety worse and worse because it wasn't being treated. So this year I started with a therapist who specializes in trauma and dissociation. That is when my alter started coming out in therapy. My anxiety has gotten much better since they have been able to talk. It has been quite interesting. And quite bizarre. Sometimes I feel like I'm making it all up but then it's like I don't understand how these differences come over me.I just recommend really finding a therapist who specializes in dissociation for treatment. Not that I know a lot but if you ever need to talk feel free to contact me.
