Does anybody here have a problem with finding large bruises but not knowing where they came from, especially the day after having a nightmare? I get these from time to time, always after a nighmare and on my upper thigh. It usually doesn't show up until later the next afternoon. They can sometimes be really large. I don't thrash around at night or sleep walk. I do sweat a lot, especially when I have bad dreams.
Familiar to anybody? Could I be doing this to myself? It seems likely, but it's hard for me to believe I could create such a large bruise while sleeping. |

then my treatment providers and I worked together on all avenues....with me the problem turned out to be MS (multiple Sclerosis) and medications. once those were in control my unexpected and sudden bruising stopped happening. Im taking a guess that since the bruise isnt there when you wake up but rather shows up later in the day, that having the nightmares is not connected to it. my suggestion is keep track of what you were doing just before you noticed the bruise. that will tell you what you are doing that is causing the bruise. another suggestion is something my treatment providers told me....when you notice the bruise think back to the last half hour to when you felt some sort of physical pain. bruising is like thunder and lightening (first theres the snap of light then there's the thunder) with bruising there is a physical pain then the bruise shows up as the vessel lets out fluid. that will tell you what is causing the bruising to happen. Another suggestion talk with your treatment providers, they can help you diagnose why you are suddenly bruising easily and unexpectedly. |

Thanks, Amanda Louise! You brought up a couple of things that might be connected to my bruising. For one thing, my doctor told me I was deficient in vitamin B-12 and had enlarged red blood cells, so she put me on a high dose of Vitamins B-6 and B-12 daily. Also, I am within a year or two of menopause. So this may very well be the reason for the bruises. I have to admit also that I am very unaware of my physical surroundings, including even when I bump into things. My t and my husband have been trying to help me with my awareness issue. I've had that problem since I was very young.

I'm like tanned skinned, so it takes a lot for one to appear, but when one does, it's like huh? I have a 2 inch purple scar on my forearm that's been bugging me because I don't know how it got there. It's like so hideous looking, like I was in a knife fight or something.

I do find bruises and not know when/ how I got them. One is obvious, from working on an art project, I had my elbow propped on my thigh. Insta-bruise. But with others, I likely ran into something and didn't notice, or forgot. And I'm not eating well, either, so there's that. But the bruises are small. so I must just forget.
