Does anyone ever feel like they are being possessed? I call it a take over.

Normally switching is like instantaneous, no biggy, but when a strong adverse personality takes over, it's like the toes and fingers start flexing through the arms and legs all the way up the spine into the head and then....done. Like a body suit is being put on.

Or when just sitting there body movements happen on their own. Toes flex and legs bounce fingers tap or flex...I'm just an observer. The body looks and feels detached.

I've fought take overs, and it's a battle for the body which looks like mild convulsions.

Even in a meeting before, I had to grab my right arm and pull it in because it was so like wrong and not our image on a business call! Lololol

Aren't we such awesome people? Nobody gets it.

no the only time I had this problem it was due to medication problems and psychotic symptoms. at least thats what my treatment providers called it. on the rare occasions when I could feel an alter take control it was more like dissociation (I felt numb, spacy, disconnected but could hear what was being said, kind of like being a watcher not a participant.) rather than like my psychosis symptoms. I never fought an alter while they were in control of the body. I was too busy being numb, spaced out, disconnected )

one thing to keep in mind with the term possession.....with the diagnostics it doesnt mean like a ghost or spirit moving into the body or out of the body. its a cultural description to describe the instantaneous notice able to others changes....example in my native american culture when someone suddenly goes from sad to happy it is said they are possessed by the eagle in flight, we dont mean the person is literally possessed by a flying eagle. the person has just taken on the appearance of being happy, carefree,.

"Possession" is just a descriptive term for it feels like it, and sorry, it's not medication. The others tell me it's them. Yes switching for the most part is seamless, but when Susie or Bobbie happens, they like to take their time. They just love being out and tests the body.

Members on another site say they experience the same, so it's like not my imagination lol. I'm an observer as an other takes control, that's all.

thanks for clarifying. the reason I mentioned what I did was because of the diagnostics america now uses...when addressing someone with DID that uses the term possession treatment providers must check out whether that person has a cultural background that uses that term (ie native american...) to describe the switching process. if the person doesnt have a cultural connection to the term possession, then because of the diagnostics the treatment provider most times if not always have to disregard that symptom of feeling possessed as being psychosis, hallucinations, delusions,, schizophrenic... which also includes the ...symptom....of being possessed, perceiving their self as being possessed, alters possessing them.

Also i have also found sites that claim to be possessed but they dont realize with DID its a cultural thing. maybe you can ask these people what their cultures are that use this term. I have done that and discovered most just use the term because they heard that the term is now used in the diagnostics but have not taken the time to read the rest of the diagnostics pages on DID to discover its a cultural thing, not everyone with DID will use the term possession to describe how they perceive their switching. most people with out a cultural background will describe the switching as I got triggered, felt numb, spacy, then lost track of time, or other commonly recognized wording.

I also want to tell you to be careful of what you find in various sites. just like in real life theres going to be those who like to trash talk/make believe/pretend/....I once found a site where people thought those with DID could not eat cheese, if you could eat cheese you were not DID. I have encountered people who tried to tell me they changed into a witch complete with a magic caldron and spells like harry potter...

theres even a mental disorder for this kind of thing called factitious disorders where people pretend to have problems that they dont really have.

my point is dont believe everything you find on the internet. it can lead you astray, confuse and in some cases lead ones brain to conjure up things that dont really happen with DID..there are lots out there that now use the description of possession but not so many that have the cultural background requirement of the diagnostics.

the best thing to do is go according to what your own treatment providers believe and treat you with.

a suggestion if you dont have the cultural background that the diagnostics require maybe you can find other words to describe what you are feeling so that your treatment providers dont just pass that symptom off as being another mental disorder.

Okay, thank you. Cheese? But I love cheese! How cheezy!

I do try to stick to the clinical studies with references, and others suffering.
