That is interesting, I have never heard of such alters, I'm looking forward to replies to this thread while I go off and search google to see if there are any known cases.

One way is for a baby that learned to speak a language before "disappearing" and another comes out to learn the present language.

I lived in Thailand for the first four years of my life, and I have no connection to the language even though that's all that was taught and my mother spoke it to me. The one that knows the language was traumatized and dissociated away. Will it come back? I don't know and I doubt it.

I know that I took French in high school, but that's so buried because of the long standing abuse that was going on at the time, I'm sure there's a Frenchie in here somewhere.

you might want to read the story of sybil she had both english speaking and french speaking alters (beware though this case has a lot of controversy and a lot of this case has been proved to be highly questionable due to materials found after her death conflicted with what was published in the book and made into the movie.)

the demographics\statistics here in my location shows that when someone with DID has alters that speak a different language its because of that persons cultural background\native languages and the result of alters being in control during foreign language classes or self taught through things like watching movies, books, tv shows...

example some of my alters spoke Spanish and French from watching sesame street and other PBS\documentary shows. some spoke native american (my cultural background) all could speak English (because I was raised here in america and the american language is English) some of my alters could speak german and french from high school classes, I even had an alter that could speak a mixed up version of languages that was learned from watching school films and PBS films on other cultures. I also had an alter that made up their own language like normal children do when they are small.

I'm American, but we do have one fully British alter with perfect "accent" that people seem to love to hear. She's quite proper. Being the Narrator (for when no one else in the system can speak) perhaps she came by way of Narrator in Christopher Robin and Pooh. I think there are other factors; my aunt is from London (even tho we never liked her), and once when I was having heat stroke at Disneyworld, a woman from Nottingham with the most lovely lilted speech, stopped my father and directed his attentions to us and how to care for us - she even waited with us while he went for ice water. I was just 18. I wouldn't even hear of the word "Dissociation" for another 8 years. We often think of her and her kindness, and how she pronounced "Notting-um" instead of "Notting ham" like in Disney's Robin Hood.

Um... I can't say I remember it much. I was with my abuser alone and it was August in Florida- bloody hot. He wanted to see Epcot Center and I wanted to see all the little kid things (even tho I was 18). The other two things that stand out for me beyond this instance were that we swam across "shark lagoon" and I had a panic attack halfway across after seeing a hammerhead and an octopus; and that after a particularly difficult day where my dad nearly tried to strangle the bus passenger who cut in front of him on the way back to the hotel (and I had to break up a fight), I sat at a "character breakfast" feeling glum and Eeyore came over. We looked at each other sadly for a moment (dad was getting breakfast at the bar) and gave each other a long hug. That really helped.

Not necessarily an "alter" story.

One Thanksgiving snow storm meant over-night guests. Age 11 girls, family tried leaving in snow storm and almost crashed. Idiot Dad returned Mom and Kids back to house then drove off needing to go to work next day. So girl was emotionally "traumatized" by near crash and worried about dad's safety.

One small bedroom, 8 people, 3 adults, 1 teenager, 1 pre-teen, and 3 elementary age kids sleeping on two twin beds separated as 2 people on 2 box springs and one Mom and 3 kids on two mattress tops pushed together. Only sound breathing.

All of a sudden age 11 girl starts speaking Chinese. About 10 minutes then only male in room, girl's uncle says. "Well, that was interesting." I asked. "Does anyone else feel like we were getting cussed out in Chinese" Uncle. "Oh. Yeah. She was definitely cussing someone out."

Next day, she had no memory of speaking Chinese or knowing a Chinese person.

Adults "parents" and "grand parents" disagreed with a teenage girl. I was about age 7 and she was age 2, the grocery store near her home was owned by Chinese. We would hear "angry" Chinese from back storage area during shopping trips and started cracking up laughing.

I suspect her toddler brain recorded "storage back of mind" strange (anger) then familiar (laughing) sounds then the relative strange-familiar emotional sleeping environment, one small room, the strange sounds came out.

Repeating sounds is how we "teach" babies/child such as "say cookie." Saying cookie is a "non-emotional experience." Why couldn't and wouldn't babies/children "learn" foreign emotional experience sounds and repeat sounds without actually learning a foreign language.
