I have an inner child who went through my early trauma which I kind of remember/ kind of don't. I certainly don't remember all of the abuse and torture I had from ages 7-10. But my older brother remembers and he tells me what my older cousin did to me. Well lately I have left a notebook out for my alters to write on while I'm in control. And I saw what looked like what a child drew of a monster. I never thought he would come out and whenever he has I come back to consciousness with my mom holding me or now (my dog licking me) and me hiding under a table. Why do you think my inner child drew a monster?

Because somebody behaved monstrously toward him. Someone outside the system, I mean. He's just trying to let you know that some scary bad stuff happened. I would encourage him to keep drawing, my young parts drew lots of pictures to help me understand them.

Sorry it's so triggering. Nice that your dog sees that you need comfort.

why do I think ....your.... inner child drew a monster? sorry but I have no idea why ....your...inner child drew a monster. I can tell you why my own alters drew monsters but not why yours did. for that you will need to contact your own treatment providers who can help you discover why your inner child drew the monster.

my own alters that drew monsters did so for many reasons. the main one was because its normal for children to draw monsters. its just part of play time...example when children are toddlers and young boys and girls parents teachers and friends all play lets pretend games that include pretending monsters. like tag your it, hide and go seek, boo , Im a monster raaaarrrr, its endless on all the childhood games out there that are based on pretend someone is a monster, then add to the cartoons children watch, sesame street has more than one monster so does power puff girls, scooby do, casper, flintstones, dinosaur train, curious george , just about every kids show out now has some sort of evil person\monster in it, then add the internet games nitendo, wii...its normal for children to play monster and draw monsters, its not like we live in the dark ages where children are not exposed to how to use your imagination and play monster.

Another common reason why my alters drew monsters was because thats what their job, purpose reason for being was....to draw monsters, shapes, lines, numbers, words, and other pictures.

my alters never drew pictures of monsters to represent their abusers or how they felt because there was the do not tell, threat of harm if we did, as a whole my internal system was one of protection and survival, protect the secrets and do what ever is needed in order to survive even if it meant not telling what happened, not verbally, not written. to the point where there were alters who's job, purpose, reason for being was to take over in the event that someone was starting to notice or discover our secrets.

again only you and your treatment providers can say why your own alters drew monsters. my suggestion contact your treatment providers they can help you to discover your answers of how and why your alters are comprised the way they are.

I kind of wonder if it was play too. But my inner child doesn't come out much so maybe he wanted to show me a cool picture? That's what I'm sensing. And also, my best friend just said my DID was demonic, and he was like, "if that's what you want to do, go for it." and then he hung up. what a friend.
Thanks for this!

My cats keep me alive. They are worth living for, and give me routine and comfort.

I have two - Both in their teens. One was feral, and I adopted her from a rescue centre when she was 11 months old. Im so proud of her, and how far she has come from when i first got her. She's so brave now

The other - He's my soul mate. I took him from an acquaintance when i saw the terrible condition he was being kept in. This acquaintance was a really bad person. He hurt me too. The cat was not expected to survive the night, but I stayed up with him and he made it. With lots of TLC he became my big gorgeous healthy man, and didn't get sick again for the next 12 years We are terribly codependent. If I don't eat he brings me more 'presents'. He suffers baaad separation anxiety which Im trying to work on. He is only happy when we're spooning on the sofa. It was him that brought routine in to my life (I got him first - the second was to keep him company whilst I went to work). I just couldn't lead a chaotic lifestyle and keep him safe and healthy at the same time. What I couldn't do for myself, I could do for him.

Thanks Shattered Sanity - you say all the right things They're the opening lyrics to George Ezra's 'Its Just my Skin'. I swear this song should be every DID'ers anthem! George has saved me a lot this year. I him

Heres the song

Heres the rest of the lyrics - I can't get over just how much they resonate with me!

"It's Just My Skin"

There's a lock on my cupboard door,
That I can only reach once inside,
And I often sit and wonder who designed,
Such a perfect place for me to hide

It's just my name,
It's just my skin,
Holding a boulder,
Can you swim?
Oh as we fall,
Through the water,
You find a piece within,
And you know it's just your skin

Well I was never lonely ‘till the day that I was born,
Since that day I masquerade in a skin that I have worn,
With at least three separate individual minds,
When long John returns he'll give a scream,
and what he finds

Is just my name,
Is just my skin,
Holding a boulder,
Can you swim?
Oh as we fall,
Through the water,
You find a piece within,
And you know it's just your

Black dog, black dog, that I'll never know,
Oh black dog haunts you mind, your world, your soul,
Oh black dog, black dog, can't you see I am fine?
Oh black dog, black dog, you're no plague of mine.

It's just my name,
It's just my skin,
Holding a boulder,
Can you swim?
It's just my name,
Oh, it's just my skin,
Holding a boulder,
Can you swim?
Oh as we fall,
Through the water,
You find a piece within,
And you know it's just your skin.
