Well it's not a diagnosis for Scar but it was a random thought Evee had one night.
We were thinking of Scar's depressive episodes. We first thought it was just depression but then Evee looked at what she knew about Bipolar Disorder and the symptoms matches Scar's... But even then we don't know a lot about Bipolar and we were wondering, isn't it a personality disorder in a way? Therefore since we have DID ain't it.. little bit impossible to have two personalities disorders? Or are we totally wrong.
And then.. we are think is DID even a personality disorder
But outside of the way, if that isn't possible than could it be another alter? I guess our system is very different and we usually have no clue who is out so if there is a possibility of there being an alter identical to Scar and them switching and we not noticing on behaviour and act and everything all together we would not know that unless Scar says something. By now the only "depressed" alter is Noah but he doesn't come out he just talk isht to Scar and depress him like that.

For us, the body is bipolar because it involves genetics- a hidden biologically genetic condition that is triggered to begin... but once began, it never goes away and is only treatable with medication. Our ultra-rapid up and down mood swing cycles are automatic like a never ending wave that starts the cycle over (set of episodes up/down) every 10 days like clock work. Can only a few alters be affected? I don't think so, it doesn't seem so for us.

Being on meds, these automatic ultra-rapid mood swing cycles have disappeared leaving us stabile, but the emotions of each still prevail. For instance, if an other is depressed, it's going to be depressed regardless of how much or what meds we take.

Another indicator of bipolar for me is being super happy that just won't quit to the point it is a buzz that lasts days till it peaks. Also, nothing can upset me till the mood swing is over.

Other conditions that mimic bipolar symptoms is borderline personality disorder (which can be alter specific), DID, hormonal imbalance, physical organ damage, etc. Borderline highs and lows are triggered therefore not automatc cycling, are not biological in origin, but trauma born as a personality disorder. Borderline and bipolar are often misdiagnosed to each other, but requires the same meds. Borderline is also treated with therapy and E.B.T.. Personality disorders can be co-morbid with DID.

I know a few my the others in our system is borderline, mainly due to the extreme fear of abandonment...just the idea of being left brings about excessive amounts of anxiety and mood swings...but we now make sure that it doesn't present anymore because we recognize it as a mental disorder.

One other thing I noticed about bipolar, moods can affect the one triggered to present, like our depressed others are more likely to present which makes the depression worse to suicidal. When a chirpy one does come forward, the depression gets lighter but is short lived. The same happens with hypomania, a depressed other can cause a mixed state where as a chirpy one drives up sky-high and over the top too much.

I hope this helps some. Only testing with a pdoc and therapist can fully determine the actuality of the disorders.
Thanks for this!

no here in the USA bipolar disorder is not a personality disorder, it is called \categorized with the depression\anxiety disorders.

no it is not impossible to have bipolar and DID. they each carry their own designated diagnostic criteria. if a person fits both disorders diagnostic criteria they will receive both diagnosis labels.

with DID there is a diagnostic criteria that says the symptoms can not be better explained by another mental disorder. what that means is the treatment provider must look at each symptom the person is having and decide whether that symptom fits with DID or bipolar disorder.

in short each disorder must not cross over into the other any more. America is moving away from the multi axial (many mental disorders sharing the same problems, many mental disorders on the list of that persons problems, and did away with the diagnostic label of NOS categories.)

example I had DID and Bipolar disorder. by the new standards any problems associated with my DID could not be part of my Bipolar and my bipolar problems could not be part of my DID problems.

you know how you read posts where people cant figure out whether their dissociation is because of this or that. well now treatment providers have guidelines that tell them if this is happening its bipolar problem if that is happening its a dissociative problem. the two dont cross over any more. each has their own special list of diagnostics.

to answer your next question is DID a personality problem...not here in the USA. the name was changed in 1994 and no longer included in the personality disorder category. now its called a dissociative disorder not a personality disorder (hence the name dissociative identity disorder.)

only your treatment providers can answer whether the problems are another alter or not. suggestion on this contact your treatment providers. they will explain how they go about diagnosing whether something is a DID\dissociative type alter, other kind of alter or another mental disorder or normal for you and your system.

what I can say is that in my location a DID type alter is not identical to the host. we have a new term here called ANP (Apparently Normal Personality) which is different in my location than having an alter associated with DID. your treatment provider can assess whether this problem you are posting about is an ANP or an alter associated with DID in your location.
