Thought it might be interesting to start a thread about essential oils. I discovered how amazing they are about 2 years ago. I use them to try to help ground me, or give me clearness in my mind.

The "tree oils" are the ones that comfort me the most. I suppose they do because I feel amazing when I'm outside and experience the smells of the trees and sunshine. I diffuse them inside and it helps me. Some of the favorite ones that I like are cypress, white fir, cedarwood and arborvitae. Sometime I blend them together, a couple of drops in the diffuser, other times I just pick one.

I've heard that lavender helps some people, but it has not really been a help for me. Some people say that it relaxes them, and helps them ground back.

Vetiver is also a really great oil to diffuse. It has a very intense smell, but it's helpful to me sometimes. It helps to cut through the "fog" if that makes sense. I've tried to diffuse this as I slept, and had some really out there dreams. I've heard from others that they experienced this also. Just FYI.

The company I purchase my oils from, also sells blends of oils that help with certain issues. One is Balance, it is a grounding blend, and to be honest - if I could afford to buy enough of it at one time, I would bath in it!!! I put it on my feet every morning and it has helped me feel not so "out there." Another blend is InTune. It is a blend for ADHD and helps to focus your thoughts. I have found that to be a very helpful blend also. I always put these two blends on the bottom of my feet before my session time with my counselor. I believe it helps. It gives me comfort anyway.

When I've had a really hard day, mentally or physically, I soak in Epsom salt water with a few drops of oil. People really don't realize the benefits of salt water to pull the toxins from your body. Mental stress produces toxins just like overworking ourselves physically produces toxins.

I just wanted to share this with whoever was interested. My family thought I had lost it when I started diffusing the oils in our home and tried to apply the oils for different things, on them. Well.... now they come to me and ask for them and my husband is the one that refills the diffusers in the house when he gets home.

They are amazing and I just wanted to put this out there. It may help someone.

If you are using the oils also, I would love to hear what helps you!!

Peppermint helps me also. I keep peppermint beadlets with me most of the time. Peppermint helps with tummy issues and it is great for alertness. I take them with me to my appointments with my counselor. I've experienced that "zone out" feeling talking with him and it helps me kind of "come back to the moment"

Scents are double edged. Love the smell of lots of things but smells are the strongest of the senses connected to memories. But i dont hold all of our memories so it can trigger overwhelming stuff, that takes over. Avoid the Yankee Candle store at all costs! Learned that one the hard way.

I do agree with you!! Kirklands and Bath & Body are also stores that I avoid at all cost!
