Is this dissociation:

When saying something, you're not even aware of what you are saying until after you've said it and you realize "That makes sense, but I don't remember even thinking that response." Or tonight, I laughed at something but I didn't really even think it was funny and I wondered why I was laughing.

Is this dissociation or maybe an ADHD thing? It is something weird I've noticed that I do on and off for years, but I've never really known what it is.

I'm not sure. I think the speaking without really thinking about it can be a normal thing. You'd have to talk more in depth with a professional...

There are some very "normal" forms of dissociation most everyone utilizes on a daily basis. Driving on "autopilot" to get to familiar places, daydreaming at school or work, "zoning out" during a boring meeting, etc are all very common forms that don't necessarily interfere with life and are not necessarily a cause for concern... dissociation generally occurs on a continuum, from relatively mild (stuff like driving on autopilot) to severe (like dissociative identity disorder). Speaking without thinking about it might fall at the mild end. More concerning might be speaking without thinking about it but also being shocked at what comes out, as if it were not something you would normally think/say or believe, and not intending to lie or be contrary.

Everybody dissociates at one time or another. Dissociation is also a symptom of many other mental illnesses. When dissociation disrupts a person's life, then it becomes a disorder.

Dissociation is a triggered response where ones mind goes into a daze- when one can't mentally deal with the present situation. When I dissociate, I become nonfunctioning and so talking and thinking isn't my thing.

For instance, I've hardly no people skills and can't handle human contact. If a person was to walk up and talk to me, I'd dissociate and immediately go into a daze- pretty much shutting down into a trance. Being a multiple, I have Others like Steve, Karen, or Others whose job is to communicate with humans that will quickly step up to keep up the illusion of normalcy and carry on the conversation, for "me" to only return when it was my turn to get back to work, like when the convo is over.

I believe most who ask here are worried that they might have an "alter" talking out because not being in control of ones own body is a very fearful thing for us humans, after all, it's our body. DID is a since babyhood condition brought on by trauma such as abuse that the mind couldn't process which is only discoverable through therapy.

Its human to say something without thinking like through distraction, blurting something out, or double taking on a thought, emotion or action. Though, the lines can somewhat get blurred.

Yea extremely complex indeed, there are several things we do without thinking. Practice this with yourself how much of talking is done with a thought in mind first, unless you are mulling over what you need to say in a pause. That isn't always needed right? If getting into dissociation, since this is the dissociative disorder forum you will have moments like that in a normal person. Stick with I don't remember note those times you don't remember. I would say I said something, but I can't say it again because I don't remember. I don't know why it was funny . Stay away from those people that place those demands on you to remember everything.
