Well, I was online and people kept terrorizing me. Then, they kept calling me Samantha. I thought my name was Samantha and forgot what my real name was. Is this a form of dissociation?

Sorry.....no idea here.

If anybody kept calling me by a different name....I'd think they're nuts.

But I've met people that swore they new me and called me by a way different name...I told them that they were like totally mistaken but they wouldn't stop....so whatever.

In light of everything...lI still think it's mistaken because our look is totally like very rare.

gas·light
ˈɡaslīt/
verb
gerund or present participle: gas-lighting
  1. manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.
"in the first episode, Karen Valentine is being gaslighted by her husband"

I don't understand what that means. Could you give me an example?

Can you explain what happened a little better please? That sounds a little too vague to even guess whether it was a form of dissociation or not.

What do you mean by 'terrorizing',and do you know why they were calling you Samantha?Did you ask?

They were stalking me with images of dead people. Plus, they were scary and playing games with my head. And, they kept calling me Samantha. I talked to a therapist and he said it was a fugue state.

Did your therapist explain how or why it was a fugue state?

Fugue state:
a condition in which the individual wanders away from his home or place of work for periods of hours, days, or even weeks

Maybe I am missing something or misunderstanding, how would being stalked, called a different name and shown images online be considered a fugue state?

I don't know. I am not a mental health worker. Call a mental health worker.

No need to be rude,I was only asking questions in order to understand so that I could try to answer your question of whether it was a form of dissociation.

It does not sound like a fugue state to me..but I am not a mental health worker either, and why I asked why and how it was considered one.

i don't know what your mental health conditions are, but that to me sounds like you were just in a vulnerable place mentally and got confused and were suggestible in that moment.

it is not what a fugue state means though as has already been described.
Thanks for this!

gaslighting would be like that...

someone is playing mind games with you to the point where you lose touch with reality so to speak...

to me it sounds like these people were either trolling you, gaslighting you; for fun or because they thought you were some one else...

the internet is full of people that we should avoid...

if i was feeling better i could explain more..

i would suggest not talking with those people and just avoiding new people that come across like that, if it continues maybe call the cops...?

Ok,but telling me to call a mental health worker sure came off as being rude, especially when I was only trying to be helpful, but, whatever.
