So we have been thinking, since Annie is about in the age of Year 0 (6 years) could we homeschool her? I mean why not? Carolinae is studying some larger books, me and Vlad are going to normal school and Waidth has his sporting activities that would be usually thought to be for sports universities and such, so why not teach her? So, does anyone does that? We would love to do that but where do we start, obviously we can't spend a fortune on teachers and full on books (of course for later, kindergarteners don't need much) She does age every year so she needs to know something, right?
Any advice from someone who is home schooled or is home schooling an alter? |

(you can read more about this in the link at the bottom of my post.) my point is that because of sense of agency there are limits of what each (hosts and alters) can do with and for each other. example.... Rainys sense of agency was to handle storms, sadness / depression, sometimes suicidal thoughts... everything thing about her was this. she could as part of her sense of agency move the physical body just long enough to get safely out of a rain storm, change into dry clothing, sit somewhere wrapped in a warm blanket holding a toy, and cry, feel sad, feel depressed and thoughts but no actions about suicide. that was her sense of agency. because of this she was incapable of learning academics. why because learning wasnt part of her sense of agency. she wasnt created to go to school and learn/ play or take tests at school for me. so she was unable to do that. if your Annie's sense of agency is to do academics you will be able to "homeschool" her. if learning is not part of her sense of agency you ....may... be in for a frustrating situation where you ....may .... end up trying to teach academics to an alter that can not and is not meant to do so for the survival of the host and alters. Again Im not trying to deflate your interest and I do say its worth a try. you never know where ones limits are without trying, just don't push yourself to frustration and stress if it doesnt happen like you are wanting it to. take your time and explore with Annie to find out what her sense of agency is. this will help you to develop a "schooling" plan that she can accomplish, with out causing you stress.... example when I wanted Rainy to learn new things I first worked with my treatment providers to find out what her sense of agency was. then I made a "schooling" plan that was within her sense of agency... rather than teaching her reading writing and arithmetic, I "talked inside" about how to use an umbrella during a storm. I "talked inside" about how to make hot chocolate (open a hot chocolate packet, pour it into a cup and pour hot water into it.after coming in from a storm to help warm up.. she was able to do these things because getting warm and dry during and after a storm was part of her sense of agency. by working within Annie's sense of agency both you and Annie may have a good time in helping her to learn new things. |

Everyones systems are different....our littles are staying littles. Since we are so switchy sensitive and are co-conscious, there isn't a need for such activity, besides....our littles stay in the background unless they want a sweet desert or to cuddle with the dog.
But as aging littles that I assume presents for a given amount of time......yes I would be learning them, for they are as children and must be taught. Can't have a bunch of heatherns running about. |

Well there is also a concern that we might throw all of this work into educating her and then she would just disappear, we've seen it happen before with alters that just silent down and then they are just gone all of the sudden..

yes some alters can go through natural integration when they know that their sense of agency is no longer needed and they learn beyond what they were meant to be. in short its called healing when this happens. they learn enough to understand times have changed, that they are not needed for the survival of the system anymore, that the one they reside with in is capable of doing things on their own now. so they blend/merge together as one whole person again either with another alter or the body born (body born is my locations word for the physical body the alters reside with in)

interesting idea, though i am kind of with amandalouise with this one regarding the limitations of each part/alter.
i think it would be great though if it does work and help them grow. mine don't quite work in that way. any change they have is very slow, and they also don't come to the surface (or front, i guess, is the term others use) very often. the most i can have one of them participate in is watching cartoons (from inside) and some maybe be able to feel safe holding a stuffed animal if they are scared. i have tried to engage them in things when i feel them around, but like the rest of the others, they pretty much are around on their terms. just yesterday i could feel one of them nearby and put cartoons on, but she got bored fast. also, you don't necessarily have to buy things school wise. you can find things online like work sheets to print off that are age appropriate. that would save money too. some libraries also might have age appropriate workbooks on school subjects. |

Well the "problem" with our system is that we are kind of just existing. You see, since our host is pretty much gone, and we cannot connect to her since very very early childhood (about 2 years old) we are just created alters left to just do things for her. We don't have functions, we don't have a reason, and as much as we know and everyone around us knows, nothing really happened.. she just disapeared and left us to do whatever. Now we are a well functioning system, sure, and we are pretty good in taking control in almost the same time through different limbs, senses even actions, I mean some would argue that it is not even DID that we are.. but since there isn't really anything else to imagine it as, there really is not a known diagnosis for us.
Since for us 2, even 3 alters can take over in the same time through different outlets, it wouldn't be as hard. For instance since we do about 7 hours of activities, and still have 7 hours of public school, in dance one of us will be learning choreography, the other would be doing homework, and one would be studying for a test (Vladimir would take over the left eye for choreography, Carolinae would speak at a recording device for homework, and I will be reading with right eye, for instance) I mean we've heard it a lot, we are a pretty intelligent and well working system, but I was just wondering if anyone has you know, succeded in teaching a little, so we could exchange resources and give tips and things like that. Not that when we do our research and we find something, if asked we will give the resources, but a head start would be nice. |
