I have noticed that sometimes when I am listening to certain music (most instrumental) I seem to dissociate a lot.
Anyone else?

I get feelings of intense nostalgia and return to feelings of past events that can be pretty strong. I also fantasize during these times, especially when alone. Is it ever like that?

Sadly, most Gospel music makes me very nervous and like I need to get away. When I can't I end up almost forcing myself to dissociate. I've had some threatening and violent experiences in church/prayer meetings. Thing is, I'm a Christian now (instead of being forced to attend), but I still don't like Gospel music.

I can understand that. I had hadephobia since childhood that gave way to theophobia last year because of further trauma, was forced to face it and healed to a point where I could be around other Christians again and go back to church and now because of going through the ups and downs of mental illness have fallen away again.
Possible trigger:

Music can set me off and make me dissociate if it is a song that is mixed up in a not so great memory, or makes me remember someone or something like that.

Now that you mention that, a bully from my past bullied me during an old '80s song while riding the bus home from school. The song was "Tough Enough". Whenever I hear it, I definitely feel different or shift from Jekyll self to Hyde self.

Dissociation is a normal escape. I don't think anything is wrong with it.
Thanks for this!

I get triggered by music a LOT. Certain music triggers me to dissociate and have other alters take over. I am very controlling over the music I listen to for this reason. I never listen to the radio because they play all sorts of music and I often don't even know what music is going to trigger me until its too late.
Music can be a trigger like everything else. Music is often emotive so can form strong associations with certain events, traumas, feelings etc and these can get triggered up really easily.
When I was a child my family had the radio playing all the time. They listened to music and to talk back shows. I can't tolerate any form of talkback radio now - it triggers me to switch because it has such strong negative associations with all the traumas of my childhood. If talkback radio comes on anywhere I really can't handle it. Any popular music from those decades of childhood trigger me in just the same way.
I really don't listen to music much even now. I have some favorite songs that I play somtimes.

That sounds really rough. I'm sorry that you have to put up with such things. Do you carry ear plugs? That may help for when you are somewhere where you can't control the music/talk and have to get away from it.

As I said I am very controlling over the music I listen to. I control what I hear in lots of ways, including listening to my own music or white noise recordings when in public places that play music.

certain songs are triggers for us

like songs we have heard at funerals or songs that are connected with abuse

their's one really well known and liked song that gets us every time (but we'll leave out the name)
