So, I asked my therapist for a concise diagnosis today, and she said that I have Severe PTSD with Dissociative Amnesia. I also took the DES and scored 46.8, and people with DID score in the 40s. I've no idea what to think about these mixed messages. Oh well, I guess I'll just concentrate on healing from now on.

yea dont worry about that scoring. usually the scores are not in the something. something range and high score doesnt always mean a person has DID.. example my DES score was actually under 30. and I was diagnosed DID.

its all individualized and even normal people can score 98% on the DES. diagnostics for DID do not require a DES scoring. there are now other more reliable tests, some of them if you have DID you get low scores and some if you have DID you get high scores.

so yea good choice in just concentrating healing and what your treatment provider has you on for a treatment plan.

Good idea: Concentrate on healing! You can't go wrong with healing the things that are there, regardless of what label someone has assigned to their understanding of your unique experiences and conglomeration of "things".

So, I asked my therapist, this morning, if I had OSDD-1a, and she said yes. She didn't want me to feel like I had a label, and just wants me to do the trauma therapy and resolve these things together, that it didn't really make a difference. I suppose this is true, but I'm one of those people who will search for answers until I get the right one, and this seems like the right one. The lost time, the reports that I am a younger form of myself while dissociated, differing ages, history of dissociative amnesia, derealization and depersonalization....makes sense to me. I just wish she had told me this on Friday.

That’s great! I hope that helps knowing exactly what you are dealing with....such a satisfying feeling having like a concrete diagnosis that one can take a deep breath to and feel a base of satisfaction. Kudos to you. Now you have a starting point....I pray that it gets well with you, in the nick of time too!

It sounds like it's been validating for you that she did give you this diagnosis. Perhaps she was worried it would cause anxiety or pessimistic thoughts if she gave you a "label" in this way? But it sounds like it has had a positive and affirming effect. I'm glad for you!

Which doesn’t make sense because withholding information causes one to go bonkers.

Oh I'm not defending the T, for sure. I'd always rather have information than not, myself. Just wondering out loud what the T's thinking was, I assume it was a misplaced protectiveness of some kind.
