Hi guys!

Has anyone had counseling after a divorce? How was it?

Last year I made a decision to end a ten-year relationship. I should just get over it, right? But I can't let go of the anger, the abandonment, the betrayal, the sense of being trapped, the hope that by some miracle we might get back together.

Would counseling help? Did it help you?

Depends on the counselling.....if you just get someone who sits there & listens to you dump on them.....NO. If you get someone who helps you learn the skills that are missing in your life to be able to let go & get to a better place & see the big picture & radically accept it (DBT seriously has helped me & I'm NOT BPD).....think it can help a lot. I am the one that left the bad marriage & moved 2100 miles away...have been going through so many other issues in my life that I need the help with & I never have had the desire to EVER get back together as it was a miserable 33 years with him that I would NEVER want to go back to....I would be a fool......but it helps to have the backing that the way I'm feeling is valid given what I went through because for everyone else....it was I who was the problem in the marriage....no one could see through his NICE cover-up just how bad he really was......so I need support in that area......& it does help no matter what issues we come away with as long as the T is someone who really gets in there & works with the issues

I was in counseling pre-divorce, and I've been in counseling post-divorce. I do find it beneficial.

What about post-divorce counselling with your ex?

It wasn't going to happen, in marriage, and it certainly wouldn't happen, in divorce. My ex, insists, I am a nut job.

Yet, his words and behaviors are as irrational, as many I have ever seen nor read.
