Hello everyone, I am new here, my name is Britt.
Well, let me start by telling you a little about me. I am 18, will be 19 in August. I am a female. I have had a eating disorder my whole life, always struggled with food. These past few months, I have been trying to work out, but I always got this massive pain in my stomach when trying. Not only that, I get it threw out the day.I went to the doctors, they did a scope test, because at first they thought it was acid reflex. Well, it turns out to be this thing called "Lazy Stomach". My stomach is so messed up, that it takes alot longer than the usual time to digest my food. When I get this pain, the only thing that soothes it is food, which makes my problem a million times worse. I have been taking nexium / Prilosac to help the acid in my stomach. The doctor told me it will take a long time before my stomach is back to normal. Not only is the weight effecting my health, but it's effecting me too. I am always depressed, I feel like crap everyday. I know this is not true, but I feel like the biggest person in the world, that nobody likes me because I am over weight, that I am not pretty, that I'm ugly, that people don't see the real me. I think about suicide alot, not only because of my weight, but because I keep putting myself down with these thoughts, with how I can't suceed in school, how I can't do nothing right, my parents are ashamed of what I have become. I can't sleep at night, knowing what I have become. It keeps me up till 7am, I sleep till 4-5pm, Wasting my life away. Well, My question is, How can I lose weight without being super active? I already eat healthy, but have lost very little weight. I don't know what to do, with the Lazy Stomach I can barley walk down the street, that's how bad my stomach is. Another question, What do you guys do to cheer yourself up? How to stay positive? :[ I try hanging with my one friend that I have, but I can't do anything she wants to do because it usually involves being super active.

I know that pain it's gastroparesis I have it too from not eating it caused my stomach to start digesting very slowly 4% rate and when I eat it's excruciating. I got diagnosed in 06. It does get a little better but not much if u keep not eating and trying to lose weight. I know from experience and it will only make it digest slower again experience. Be careful because your going yo start throwing food up bc it gets do slow it gets stuck in your esophagus and won't empty to stomach. And when or if it does it just sits there whole for hours and you still may get sick. This is not a fun condition. Try drinking protien shakes it's the easiest to digest trust me I use protien powder yogurt frozen fruit soy milk and ice. It's easy to get down. Good luck.

woundedheart, is there anything they can do for this condition? any surgical options or anything?
Britt, you say you've had an eating disorder--what kind? anorexia or overeating? what is your weight currently (underweight, healthy or obese--we can't use numbers here)? since you didn't specify eating disorder I was just wondering if you are actually overweight or do you just *think* you're overweight? you may want to do some work with weights with your arms--even while sitting and watching tv. how about swimming? does that hurt? I wish I had better suggestions work-out wise. I hear you on the feeling like crap, talking yourself into believing the distorted thinking, depression, etc. you're so not alone and I'm glad you're here at PC!

Overeating /binge eating . I am obese. have been for a while. Swimming does not hurt actually, that totally slipped my mind, thanks for the tip! And by the way, from what I was told from the doctor I only have 2 other options if the acid reflex medicine does not work. Which are 2 different medicines, one of them causes horrible side effects that are permanent. And the other is not available in the United States. He never told me anything about surgery, so I'm guessing it's not possible. Because when I asked him about surgery he just told me about 2 different medicines that where my option. He also told me that I was very healthy for a bigger person, no where near diabetes or any of that nature, which I am very proud of. But the thing that confuses me, is if I'm a healthy big person, why did this condition happen to me? Thank you for the tips, I really appreciate them! And thanks for welcoming me here ![]()

Suki22 to the best of my knowledge there isn't any available surgery, it's just a condition that they can manage with medication and easily digestible non spicy foods. Even though the pain is frequently there it has gotten a lot better than it was before it was diagnosed. There are times that it flares up but I just accept it as a part of my life being as I did this to myself because of my anorexia. The primary cause is damage to the vagus nerve which aides in the pumping and contracting movements of the stomach.
