I keep loosing weight, I am not eating a ton of calories right now, but enough that I should be maintaining or even gaining a little. It seems like the more I take in the more I loose. I don't know if this is a long term effect, if I have really messed my body up somehow from being anorexic for so long. I am really trying to keep my weight above x and the harder I try to keep at or just above x the more I loose.
This has happened numerous times, I'm just a bit confused here. Has anyone else been here? I'm not sure what's going on or how I should change this. I'm dipping to a dangerous low and I don't really get it. It is getting frustrating and I also worry that the new low numbers will fuel my behavior to change for the worse. |

I know that this reply is a bit late, but is there any chance you can talk to your doctor about it? There could be a number of reasons that you are still losing weight, and some of those could be related to your past habits, but not all. Your doctor should be able to do some tests and help you to work it out.

I would definitely talk to your medical Dr about your weight concerns. High metabolism can cause weight loss to continue. For me stress is a cause.....when I am under extreme stress, it increases my metabolic rate & my weight comes off even more on top of the fact that stress usually makes me feel sick & it's difficult for me to eat when I'm feeling sick.
Thyroid issues can also cause weight loss/gain (depending on the thyroid problem...overactive vs underactive). Some of this issues might be cause by long term anorexia, but long term anorexia usually is more dealing with anemia & your electrolytes which are related more to heart issues. It's definitely an issue to be taken up with a medical Dr because they can do the blood work that can help them detect if there is actually something physically wrong that is causing the weight loss. When my medical Dr had me in the hospital & treating me physically for anorexia, he put me through every test possible to try to figure out if there was some physical reason I wasn't able to eat (why I was constantly feeling sick), Found absolutely nothing physically wrong....so they knew it was psychological....but they wouldn't listen to the fact that stress was what was causing the psychological issues & the trauma I had gone through.

Thanks Eskielover,
I have my thyroid checked regularly because of bipolar medication. I have been very stressed. I went to the dr yesterday because I started having gallbladder attacks, I didn't know what wa going on, thanks to a thread on PC I clued in. The dr ordered blood tests and an ultra sound. He said I need to have my gallbladder removed most likely. So I am wondering if that is part of the cause here. After I posted this my appetite completely bottomed out, well feeling nauseated everyday is not helping at all. I thought I was intaking more calories too, but when I started counting them, which I try to avoid doing I realized they were getting pretty low the last few weeks. Hopefully this will help solve some of this, but he said waiting lists for gallbladder surgery is about 6 months. |

Yes, the gallbladder could very well be causing the nausea that's causing your lack of appetite. Stress & our physical wellness are directly correlated. I'm sure you will be feeling much better when they get that taken care of. How wonderful that a thread here on PC clued you in. PC is a wonderful place for all kinds of information. Take care of yourself & try to eat the foods that you can tolerate just to keep your weight somewhat stable & also let your Dr know if you st art to loose too much. Might help your Dr determine a higher priority for your surgery. ![]() ![]()

Sometimes it is hard to see what exactly we are eating and we think that we are eating more than enough but we are actually not eating enough... Maybe you can keep a food journal and show it to a therapist or nutritionist or someone that you really trust to get there opinion on the amount that you are eating

Thanks Need Support,
Yes, my boyfriend really started bugging me to add up the calories, and when I did it was way way below the recommended ammount for myself. Well at first when posted this it was higher. But I soon decreased the amount of food upon all the gallbladder symptoms I started having, and I didn't notice how low the food intake was till I added it up. When you are feeling reay sick it feels like a lot of food. Ive been doing a bit better now. One big motivation for me is that I got to Bikram yoga 4 days a week, and I haven't been able to go. The heat in the room is way too much when I am underweight and I believe that can actually be dangerous. But I really need to go, it helps me so much with the anorexia and with bipolar. I have been trying to eat mire this past week and have actually gained a few pounds back! I'm trying to be happy about that. I can go back to my hot yoga hopefully this week, and I hope it goes well. Last time I was there I felt very I'll during an after the session. I felt like I was going to pass out the whole time, blacking out and had a massive headache. After class I felt like I had a bad flu, could not cool down and just felt really ill. This has happened quite a bit, so Im just not sure. I hope it will go a little better upon returning. I love the hot yoga as I find it very demanding and I really have to focus and be present in the room. However I am a little nervous about being underweight and exerting myself so much in a room heated to 105 degrees F an 40% humidity. But if I can use it as motivation to keep my weight up then I guess that's a good thing. |

UGH, I lived in the California desert & 105F was our normal summer temperature. That level of heat was hard on me no matter when I was underweight or not. I can't function at that temperature let alone trying to push my body to do something. I don't think that's healthy no matter what your condition IMO from my personal experience.
