i think so. i struggle with this too. it almost feels good to be able to be in control. although i dont think that masochism is the issue at the heart of everything. i think it is anxiety, lack of control, insecurity, etc.

masochism- The tendency to derive pleasure, esp. sexual gratification, from one's own pain or humiliation. I always define masochism in the sexual gratification terms. I think ED's are more anxiety/ocd based.

if you are here in Ny USA no restricting your own food intake is not considered masochism.. here masochism is achieving sexual gratification through physical /emotional abuse...ie achieving sexual gratification (orgasm) from having rough sex, achieving sexual gratification (orgasm) from having someone hit, beat you. achieving sexual gratification from having someone humiliate/ call you names.
here in NY USA depriving oneself of food /depriving one self of nutrients by not eating or eating and purging is called self starvation, bulimia and if someone else is depriving a person of food/nutrition its called starving the person, physical abuse, and sometimes neglect and assault. thats just what its called here where I live and work. other locations may have other rules/laws governing such behavior / problems |

self starvation could be considered a form of self injury, i believe, but i don't think that's the same as masochism.
i'm curious what prompted you to pose this question? does it seem like masochism to you? |
