Just whining here. I went to the doctor today and his STUPID weight chart says I am "overweight." So for a small-boned person of my height, I should weigh X amount, but I weigh a bit more than that...but apparently I "look" skinny/just fine to people....

Whatever. This is so confusing. I always thought I looked fat/overweight, but in the back of my head I was telling myself it was the ED talking. But maybe not. Maybe it's true this time and I have gotten fat for real. So ridiculous. I guess it's time to try to lose weight. I don't get it!

What a joke.

So sorry for venting. I just had to put it somewhere.

that's is an awful thing for the doc to say to you surely he/she would have more sense and the knowledge you have struggled with an ED, i guess sometimes they are so busy they forget the details but if you feel fine and are happy with your weight then forget what they said, it's supposed to be very hard to deal with body image while coping with an ED and if you managed to feel good about yourself then maybe remind them the next time how far you have come <3

I'm so sorry that was upsetting to you. I think any of us who have struggled with an eating disorder need to be allowed some flexibility with the whole bmi chart ( which is a farce anyways, my low end healthy bmi is nowhere near a normal weight for my body type). Be the healthiest YOU ( nourishing mind and body) as best you can and screw the chart.....( I know so easy, right?)

Oh yup, I totally get where you're coming from. I'm sorry. :[ The BMI chart is so basic though, it doesn't really distinguish bad weight from the good weight so it's inaccurate a lot of the time. Could just be muscle or water weight which is nothing to worry about. And I think people are frank about these things (at least to me), so I'm sure if they say you look good then you probably do!

If it was BMI figures that he was going by, I would say to take it with a large pinch of salt. It is just a guideline and does not take into account a person's build, bone density, muscle ratio etc. I guess you are gaining weight in recovery? A better thing to ask yourself is whether you feel healthier and more energetic now. People recovering from EDs should probably avoid thinking in terms of fat/thin/overweight/underweight. I don't know. I'm new to this, but this is just what I think. Hang in there. I'm sure you're not 'fat'.

I'm sure you're fine. You could go to a few of those calculators that measure height/weight/age on-line for other opinions. Don't forget....your body frame and other things also count and they often discount those types of things in those measurements.

If you deem that you DO need to lose a few pounds, don't start purging or starving yourself again; you've made too many gains to go backwards. Come up with a sensible way of losing it. Getting a little bit of exercise that you're not getting now may be all you need to do to shed a few pounds.
Thanks for this!

I agree... It can take a long time for the body to sort itself out.

I had never thought to look at the metabolism...I am sure it is really screwed up though...I did have a blood test done, and sugars/thyroid/liver/kidney and those good things are all normal, thank goodness....so should I assume metabolism is good too, or is there a separate test for that?

I'm interested to know if there is a test for metabolism too, though I doubt it...

I don't know that there is a metabolism test per se, but my friend, you are more than a bmi chart. I really think it is essential when you are ready to recover, to let the body do what it must. (Speaking intellectually, not as an eating disordered person). It can take a year or two to level out but you deserve to heal, I still say screw the charts
