I think I need a new counselor. I need someone to help push me into changing and someone who gets it. My current t spent an entire 30 minutes talking and repeating the same stuff my last session. My brain was dead by the middle of the session and I wanted to leave so bad. She is not helping me at all. When I brought up that I had a glass of milk and that it's good for you she replied shat I feel was negative by saying - unless your lactose intolerant. I don't need any additional reasons not to eat, I have enough. There was another time she did this too.

Anyhow, I want to find someone else. Should I call or email and any dpecific questions I should ask? I have anorexia.

Oh, Andy current counselor never follows through on goals. I need someone who will really work and help me.

If you have a psychiatrist you might him/her for some names that specialize with eating disorders, then call and check to see if they have any training in that area. If you don't have a psychiatrist, your insurance company if you have one might be able to lead you in the right direction. Good luck.

I would search for a licensed psychologist who specializes in treating eating disorders. Psychologists practice forms of therapy such as CBT-cognitive behavioral therapy which are proven successful at treating eating disorders. My T is a psychologist and has a PhD so I know she knows her stuff. She is not specialized in ED's but was still willing to work with me after diagnosing me with atypical anorexia a couple weeks ago. She is working on my treatment plan and consulting with my doctor and dietitian to form a treatment team. I feel like she is very organized and helps me to come up with therapy goals and it sounds like you need to find someone who can do the same for you.

My psychologist is not a specialist in ED's...but they I have so many other things going on such as PTSD & depression/anxiety (which is what my disability is for)......but she specialized in DBT....& so does the psychologist leader of my DBT group.....Between them both....they help me keep in control of my eating via keeping constant practice of the DBT skills I've learned......it helps along with the gentle reminders.....but only I can honestly make sure I control my eating.
