Hi, I just joined today and have recently admitted that I need to start getting help for my eating (today I went for my intro counseling session). When I was there I was told that I should not exercise however this is a difficult thing for me to cut. I really want to get better and do NOT want to hurt myself anymore but all I want to do is exercise...just wanted to know if anyone had any encouragement towards this or am I still allowed to do any exercise like to go for walks (i know no one is experts but obviously the feelings are understood), thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this.

i think it depends how sick u r...if ur at the point where u could go into cardiac arrest without warning then obviously exercising isn't a good idea. i would think if ur physical health is not too bad a little bit of exercise would do u good, after all it's a part of being healthy...the key is moderation, i think, and not pushing urself when exercising. i am an athlete and i found that in actual fact my sport helped me out of my eating disorder b/c it gave me something positive to achieve and i had to eat properly in order to train properly. i think consult a medical doctor to see if u can exercise or not and what is and isn't ok. all the best for ur recovery!

Welcome to PC

I completely agree with zombiette.

First evaluate if it would be physically or mentally dangerous to exercise.

If it would not be dangerous than I would say you could still go for walks and simple exercise like that IN MODERATION. Because when I say walk I mean like a 1 or 2 mile slow paced walk; not fast walking, not miles at a time, and not several times a day.

SO if you can exercise like walk, in moderation, without it being dangerous, I don't see anything wrong with it... But that is also my opinion based on just the information you gave us.

Thank you for the responses...she said the reason I should not exercise is because of my heart and potential problems it could have (again, it was an introductory session so she was not a medical doctor). I have been exercising a lot and I feel fine but I guess this is just one of the many things that I will have to be rethinking??

hi and welcome.
have you seen a medical doctor yet?

yoga is a good form of exercise but if they are worried about your heart then best to get checked out before you do anything. if you need to chat pm me any time

what country are you from?
