I need to lose weight in a healthy way. I am overweight right now. I've seen many dietitians over the years and it just doesn't help me. I think it's because I'm not as willing as I should be to lose weight in a healthy way rather than restrict (which just sets me up for failure).

My problem is...I have no idea how to eat a healthy amount of food without counting calories. But my former anorexia revolved around calories, completely obsessed with calories. So every time I go back to counting, I become obsessed again. I don't know how to eyeball adequate portion sizes. I don't like exchanges. I can't exercise right now because I have a bad hip.

I don't know what to do. I'm afraid I'm going to get fatter and fatter. I'm at a loss.

i am struggling with eating healhty right now too. going to see a nuitritionist on wednesday. i have always been overweight as in obese, cant buy clothes at a regular store overweight. i can finally fit in an xl now and for health reasons need to eat better. i thrive on carbs, sugar, chocolate, ice cream and processed foods. i dont cook. the microwave is my best friend. due to my abusive past, it seems i have issues around food and my therapist has now diagnosed me with an eating disorder. i dont eat all day, but i binge at night. trying to eat healthy, i focus on the calories and like you said, i become obsessed. so i cant do that either. so now i just eat any time i want, but intead of junk, i eat real food. i plum here, a yogurt there, a pork chop, a banana, i precooked all this stuff and put it in single serving containers and froze it so i dont have to measure or anything. i just pull it out and nuke it. salad is so low in calories, particularly spinich that i can eat a giant bowl of it and it doesnt matter. or watermelon. so i work on finding this healthy stuff that is low in calories so if i binge on it it doesnt really matter. i dont know if this was particularly helpful. my philosophy is, if you are going to be bad, do it in a good way.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. I really like junk food, too.

I have a friend who even if she completely starves herself, she can't loose weight.....she is taking an AD that causes weight gain, also, she has a thyroid problem that's causing her weight gain. She also has other physical issues that are causing a problem that makes exercise impossible. Those are issues that unless medically addressed the weight issue will NOT be resolved.

If you have other health issues then those need to be addressed medically because sometimes there is absolutely nothing that can be done to loose weight other than to deal with the medical issues that might be behind it
