anyone else experience this.
you have a food, and then the following day- you feel unwell, and straight away you develop a phobia of that food? this has happened to me at l;east twice (in a major way) years ago it was sausages. i ate some and felt really unwell the next day (and became really phobic of them), i went without touching sausages, looking at sausages, reading about pigs.. for years and years more recently the same with turkey. i developed a phobia of it a while back, and yesterday i saw a turkey in my freezer- and it really freaked me out- to the point everything had to come out and new stuff ordered. does anyone else have this and how do you deal with t i realise that actually, it's probably not the food making me feel bad- just the way it's cooked, something like that, but i still can't bring myself to touch it or think about it. and it's ashame. the foods i usually get phobic of are foods i like |

success!. (i just have to congratulate myself), i found this thread among all the pages... what are the chances
anyway, i have no choice but to eat turkey today (though i blame myself kind of) i don't have any other roast meat in the house- and i should have ordered some a little anxious about eating it in case it makes me unwell again- and i'm sort of regretting not ordering anything else in but hopefully i can get through the day and still feel okay... we'll see |

From my experience this is very common, and that's with everyone. I have both a grandma and aunt that have had that experience. My aunt ate at a Mexican restaurant once and got food poisoning. She has never went back. I've been tons of times but never got food poisoning. My grandma got food poisoning from pizza one time, and that was like 30 years ago and not only will she never eat at that pizza place again she has never even touched any pizza again.
I think it's kind of human nature. We remember we felt that one time and we don't want to feel it again. I've only had food poisoning once and it was from Olive Garden. I've went back though. I did feel sick from stew one time though (I was also drinking) and I haven't ate stew since. |

Growing up I loved Chef salads. My mom didn't have any lettuce one evening when I was hungry for it so I took cheese & thousand island dressing & just ate that.....ended up getting sick (not sure if it was the combination or that I just would have gotten sick anyway)....but never again can I eat cheese & thousand island dressing & I'm 63 now.
One Christmas, my Grandparents came in by train to visit & brought some of that fake chocolate candy. I ate it & ended up with the asian flu that Christmas. To this day the taste of that carob like chocolate stuff I can't get near. I don't get sick very easy & I hate getting sick because I usually end up breaking blood vessels in the whites of my eyes & get little pin point red spots from tiny blood vessels bursting my my face.......I fignt getting sick to my stomach but when I'm ill, there is no option. I usually won't eat when I feel sick. But that is where the anorexia problems sometimes start from...stress makes me feel sick, so I don't eat & if it's long term stress, not eating for a long time is NOT good & usually turns into massive weight loss which triggers the desire for more weight loss....becomes a vicious circle

TBH, I really don't have this issue. Once when I attempted suicide I had eaten Ravioli from a can, and threw that up. Couldn't eat that for about 30 years. But our bodies do teach us what has made us sick in the past and the smell will often make our stomach react. However, the way you described it sounds more like it is in your head, instead of your body. But I have no idea, just responding.

Minds are amazing creatures!, like any bad experience you subconsciously prevent that experience from happening even when it seems irrational.
I haven't been able to eat fresh apricots since I was 8 because of a bad experience with them and even accidentally touching the outside flesh of one at the grocers makes me physically ill to this day ![]() In similar strain to what you are saying Anrea - when I was 15, I had my first major intense panic attack, at the time of it coming on I was cooking ratatouille for a friend in her kitchen and opening a can of tinned tomatoes my heart started going into overdrive and the rest is a blur but I ended up in the ER not knowing what was happening to me. It took me 5 years to use tinned tomatoes again and another 15 years to cook ratatouille again. Go figure |
