My marriage counselor thinks I am depressed. I have learned she is right after taking many online depression quizzes. I also think I am an overeater. I eat away my blahs. Right now I have it under control, but I can gain 20 lb in a matter of a couple months. It is so difficult. I am not a huge person normally but I really think I have issues with food. Any other overeaters that can relate to this? What do you do for support? I try to keep busy, other than that though I am at a loss.

Meachie, one idea that I really like is having a coping bank. You can find out more about this at http://www.something-fishy.org/reach/copingbank.php . Food (overeating, purging, even not eating) can be a way to cope with feelings of depression, loneliness, anxiety, or anything else we have trouble facing. A coping bank is a way to keep healthier coping machanisms handy for when you are heading toward something negative.
