I don't usually post on this board but the time is now. I don't know what is happening to me. I have been thin all my life and my lowest weight was 103 lbs 25 yrs ago after a nasty divorce. I remarried and still maintained my weight except for going up to 130 which is good. Now I am on disability, have an illness and take a lot of medication but not more than usual. I hate the way I look and feel. I weigh 190 lbs and I don't eat breakfast or lunch.. I prepare dinner and never clean my plate. I do have something sweet after dinner but nothing to make me this fat. I have a thyroid problem and take medication for it. Something else is going on and I can't pin point it. It is making me even more depressed and I don't know what to do. Please throw some advice my way. I sure could use it! Thanks.

Oh, yeah, talk to your doctor, and go in there ready to MAKE yourself heard, no matter how hard that is. A lot of meds, especially psychoactive meds, can cause a lot of weight gain -- and a lot of doctors still want to tell you that you're eating too much and not exercising enough. If your doctor is one that won't discuss med related weight gain, consider finding a new one, one with a clue.
That kind of weight gain is horribly distressing, and there's no way around that. Many times, there are other meds that might work without the weight gain, and other times there are meds that can help counter the weight gain. You'll have to talk to your doctor about which meds you're taking can cause weight gain, and what the best thing to do about it will be. Another suggestion, which I give everyone who has this problem, is to keep a food and activity diary for a couple of weeks before seeing your doctor. That can help you show that you're not just scarfing down a cheesecake every afternoon, and then sitting on your back end for the rest of the day. Even housework burns calories, you know? Good luck.

<font color="blue">This can be so distressing! But actually, may not be all that difficult to figure out. (Simple but not easy to fix???)
When we quit eating 3 or 4 meals a day, and quit taking in what our bodies are used to, it goes into a "starvation" mode and STORES everything we eat!!!! Meds can cause us to change our eating habits, as can cravings and money ... If you find you just cannot go back to eating 3 or 4 meals a day, see a nutritionist that can help you at least add back the nutrition your body needs. Once your body is receiving the proper nutrition, then you can more easily drop back on what you are eating, if you aren't comfortable with eating often. Usually heavy ppl are not eating enough, they are eating too much of the wrong things., or just not eating enough of the right things. Soda (even "diet") and breads are often the culprits. Sugars...and salt. Seek help... there's no reason to not have help. (And I agree that if your doctor brushes you off... go elsewhere!) Disability takes it's toll, and it also takes special attention. Diet is something that changes, due to inactivity, boredom, and quality of food one can afford. Hang in there!

Yes, I would talk to ur doc for sure. Meds are such a bugger sometimes. They work for some things but tend to cause other difficulties. I like the idea of recording what you do eat. This way you can show the doctor what you are eating. There are some really good doctors that will help with this. The ones that won't listen don't deserve your time, just finding the right one can be tough. Wish I could send you mine. He is wonderful!!!! Could you eat something for breakfast?? This would get your metabalism (sry about the spelling) going. Even something small. Fruit is good to start the day with. Have you had your thyroid checked lately?? I have hypothyroid and I know how much of a problem it can cause. Maybe have blood work done to see where it is at. Let us know how it goes for u. Take care of yourself... Justy
