I can come home from work and sit down, immedietally in front of my computer and not realize I was sitting there for as long as I have until it's almost midnight. Usually I'm checking Facebook, checking my e-mails, watching youtube videos, or my newest addiction StumbleUpon...a lovely little website that finds things FOR you to help avoid boredom. The only really, useful, thing I do online is use Skype to talk to my fiance (in the Navy), and do homework. I honestly need to get off the computer, but I can't help it.

I also play online games. I used to play WoW, but got bored with the newest expansion, and switched to another game, was addicted to that for like a month, then switched. I can sit there and play hour after hour of random games online, and still cease to be entertained. I don't really watch t.v., but I don't know if I could survive without the internet. I actually feel anxious when I don't have a computer at hand for long periods of times.

My fiance (who also loves computers and gaming) and I agreed that for our honeymoon we won't bring any electronics. Our smart phones will be turned off, and put away, computers left at home, and no using the computer there. I'm not sure how well that's going to work, but here's to hoping!
Thanks for this!

I can relate. I don't play online games but I sit on forums and check my E-mail all day. Currently I hang out on PC all the time, but which sites I visit changes every once in a while. Do you know why you ar eaddicted to the Internet? As in, in my case it's a substitute for real-life socialization, because I'm really not good with that (have Asperger's Syndrome). If you can figure out the function of your Internet use, you can maybe learn to substitute better behavior. Like, if you do it to cope wiht boredom, you could think of other things you can do instead of using the Internet. Of course some Internet usage is not bad, but too much is.

everytime I take the sanity quiz it says I have technology problems the most. When I come home from school, I sit down and turn on my laptop the school gives me. I barely get my science or any other hw done. I'm not too worried about these problems though.

I am so addicted to SecondLife that I have faked being sick so I can continue to be on the computer. It has started to affect my real relationships. I have OCD and ADD so this is extremely difficult for me to resist the computer. Secondlife is so appealing to me because it is a place where I don't have to be me. I can be whoever I want

Hello, mylove0mylife and everyone!
I used to spend too much time on the computer, and frankly, I still spend too much time on it these days as well. I find that focusing that energy on a different task that does not require the internet helps me stay off the internet.
Example: Going out with a friend to grab a snack. Simple task, but fun. No internet needed!

Good luck!

I'm addicted to the internet. I'm not so addicted to Facebook as it's so messed up on there. I just use the internet to pass the time because there's nothing to do around here. To be honest I am becoming a little addicted to psych central but I guess it's good.
Thanks for this!

It takes desire and real work to get to doing what you'd really like; come up with a different project (take classes in college online, for example) that give you a different point of view you prefer. I was addicted to Mafia Wars on Facebook and decided I didn't find that healthy, deleted all my "friends" with the exception of real world friends and family and sent those people a message telling them what I was doing, that I wouldn't be on Facebook quite as much and went back to using a health site I enjoy, SparkPeople.com instead.

Choose your addictions? Belong to forums and games that actually can help you in your day-to-day life? (and I'm not talking "The Sims Social" :-)

I'm glad I don't have facebook. But I easily find myself on the internet for endless hours if I'm not careful. I often times have to force myself to get up and spend time with my boyfriend. I make an effort but at least once a week I have to stay up late by myself on the computer to get my 'fix' of all my favorite sites and games and such. It's crazy. I truly do enjoy my time on the computer more than my time spent with friends and family. That's sad. But then again it's become part of my 'me time,' aside from all the on demand tv show catching up I do whenever my boyfreinds away.

I've been spending way too mich time myself on Facebook and email on my iPhone. I'm not much of a gameplayer. I've also been streaming Classic99.com (the former KFUO-FM from St. Louis, before the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod decided that the arts were no longer part of its mission.), as well as WFMT Chicago and WRTI HD 1 from Temple University.

I really like the internet with all its games and stuff haha. Although, my parents don't really like it when I come home and all I really want to do is sit infront of my laptop and chat with my friends or play games.... haha

It's weird... I de-activated my Facebook for 6 months in the past year... was fine, spent a lot of time on Reddit but not nearly as many hours were spent online.

Now I'm back on Facebook but am less busy during the day and my depression makes me want to avoid everything so I'm logging 4... 5... 6 hours sometimes... forever catching up on blogs, commenting on current affairs, and making sure I know EVERYTHING that's going on on Facebook...

I know I'll be so agitated if I go without. Even if I canceled my internet contract, I'd use my phone. Still I wish someone would just physically take the devices away sometimes... I just CAN'T do it myself.

I need to get a job with a strict no-social-networks/no-cell-phones policy...

A lot of my time is spent on the internet, whether it be here or looking up random things constantly throughout the day. I don't know how to handle it. It feels like my life revolves around this technology and reality is just a blur.

I tried wow, got addicted to it for a few weeks, then grew bored of it. HOWEVER. I find myself constantly amused with facebook games such as: Chefville, sim city social, and sim city.
I find myself NEEDING to try to complete weekly quests. Brother...those quests take up so much time. Sometimes I wonder how deep i'm really dwelling on this.
I also find myself I can go a few days without playing to give the games a break.
I'm one who said "I"m not getting a facebook profile for this exact reason" I went back on my word D:

This is a normal thing in the society today. It's the great problem of (most) people and they must resolve it by themselves since every tip is given but not done in action since interest and addictiveness in things could suck life and time itself if the person lacks self-control and discipline.

I think I am quickly becoming addicted to the internet as well. I try to hide it from my family...isn't that a classic sign of addiction?? I alwys have to check email before I can do any homework...I watch tv show episodes whenever I'm bored...the list goes on and on
