I hope this question is okay here, it didn't seem to fit well anywhere else. I was seeing a nurse case manager for over a year who consulted a pdoc for me. I was discharged because it's an "urgent centre" and the urgency has mostly gone for my case (I'm no longer suicidal, I've been effectively treated to becoming a zombie and my positive symptoms are mostly under control now). Does this mean I don't need a pdoc anymore? I've asked to be referred to another but I'm wondering if it makes sense to. My other pdoc refuses to see me anymore.

Hello Adespota,

Yes I think it is sad that they discharged you without referring you to the next step in the system. If you are taking medication it is best to have Pdoc anyway as they know more about medication than anyone. They can adjust that medication so that you don't feel like a zombie! Mental health goes naturally up and down so it is a good idea to keep in with a Pdoc.

Thank you Pegasus, what you said makes a lot of sense. It sounds like it would be best to keep under a pdoc's care. I didn't think of it like that.

I feel, so long as you are taking medication, there needs to be a medical doctor involved with your meds. PDocs are MDs, someone needs to monitor you. They can't expect your prescription to run out, either. Coming off meds, can be dangerous and you'd need monitoring.
Don't let them allow you, to slip through the cracks.
