I've been in the same department at work for almost 7 yrs. There is my manager, myself and 3 other girls. Besides my manager, I am the top seller by far and have receive many compliments regarding my customer service. I do love my job.
During the 7 yrs, I have never logged in late, never called in sick with the exception of when I was critically ill and needed a blood transfusion and I took a medical week off. I will take people's shift if they are sick or I have come back from holiday to work. I want to have a more stable schedule. My teenagers are angry I'm always working. I've worked every Friday night for the last 2 yrs. I'm sick of it!! I get stuck working holidays and almost every weekend. I just feel that at this point I deserve some sort of benefit. Or maybe I don't. Everyone tells me my manager should give me the hours I want. I just feel there is no difference between me and the part time girl that's been in the department for 3 mths. I'm spineless to talk to my manager. She has been very irritated and critical of everyone for the past year that I don't dare ask her anything. Last edited by oceansoftime; Aug 17, 2014 at 06:10 PM. Hi! I can understand how you feel, and it would be nice if you got some extra consideration for being such a great employee. But, the only thing you could do is ask. Is seniority taken into consideration at all?
But, if your boss is being crabby, asking could be a bad thing. ![]() |

Yes, sometimes the loyal people are taken advantage of. You do deserve to have them consider changing your schedule - but they may not. A good manager would try and accomadate you or at least come up with a compromise. At this point you can decide if it is worth it for you to stay or make a plan to leave. It's not right and I'm sorry you are having to go through this.

I do think that you deserve priority in scheduling since you've been there so long. It isn't fair that you've had to work every Friday night for the last 2 years. Please find the courage to speak with your boss and ask her if your schedule can be modified so that you can have more time off to be with your family. You've paid your dues at this point, and you deserve to have more flexibility in your schedule than the part time girl who has only been there 3 months.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going on holidays tomorrow and when I come back I will talk to her.
Yes there is seniority. I've been there 7yrs and the girl after me has been there 3 yrs and then the others are new. Now I just need to figure out a conversation. |
