Hi there, Im new and feeling lost...
Ive been struggling with depression, bipolar/ADD-like symptoms (which are probably stemming from ACOA-related issues) for a long time now. And I've lived in Japan for about 15 years = most of my adult life. The move to a new country has been very liberating, but it also sort of gave me this "free pass" to just keep avoiding the inevitable. And all my pain and grief, deep-seated stuff has definitely caught up to me. I want to work it out now. That struggle with all these things is compounded by my living in Japan and not being able to afford good (english-speaking) treatment. I only have national Japanese health insurance, no foreign/outside provider. So my options are seriously limited. While I have been making a very concerted effort to be more healthy, meditation, journaling, etc. these days, it seems like I could really benefit from someone to talk to about it all. Here in Japan, I just haven't had any luck. Any ideas or suggestions about what to do, how to take this healing process to the next level, would be great to hear from anyone out there. By the way, I have found ACOA online, with some chat rooms and group meetings that they hold each week. Although I feel I might be a little more comfortable getting some one-on-one help right now... Thanks for reading! |

Hello luxpig, welcome to Psych Central.
Mmm... that's a tricky one. The forums here are a peer-led community so there are lots of people in the same boat and others that are experts by experience. We do have specific - diagnosis regular chat groups which you will be able to join once you've got through the initial moderation process (usually your first 5 posts or so.) You've done a great thing by joining the forums. There are online therapists, I have never tried them so I wouldn't be able to recommend or not. Hopefully others will post and let you know. ![]()
