After years of battling for a diagnosis, I've just been told that I have Borderline personality disorder. I had a assessment prior to my diagnosis privately, and cmht just said return to Mind and a volunteer befriender!! Now I have at last a diagnosis can my psychiatrist tell my local cmht to appoint a cpn? I've been counclled under Mind for seven years now and they couldn't continue due to funding, hence my request for second opinion. There is a pattern that when I stopped having support after a month or so I go downhill.

Hello Gretnabride: It sounds as though you're dealing with some difficulties within the mental health system in the U.K. So those of us who are unfamiliar with it can't be of help. Hopefully your post will be seen by some other PC members who live in the U.K. My best wishes to you.

Hello Gretnabride,

Ok, I presume your doctor is aware of your mental health issues? Your GP and or mental health professionals can make a referral and I believe you can make a self-referral to the Community Mental Health Team, they then do an assessment of your needs and then they decide from their the treatment options for you. If you are already under a psychiatrist then he would refer you to the service if he felt it was necessary, usually you would be assigned a CPN if you were needing extra support.

I hope this diagnosis works with respect to getting you access to stuff you find helpful.
