Hey guys. I'm new here so I thought I would ask something. I'm 19 and I've been seeing a therapist for a few months and I was diagnosed with GAD, and a few other issues included BDD. So I have some trouble talking to my therapist and I sent her an email but not sure if it actually went through :P So i have a session in a few days and in the email I told her I started a new diet that restricts a few 100 cals. She knows about my body image issues so I'm afraid this will just alarm her more. My BMI is in the normal range which is fine but I just want to lose some extra pounds. If the email went through then for sure shell know, but if it didn't, should I still bring it up ?

Thank you for reading

Hello AnxiousGirl,

I don't think it will alarm her, it will give you the opportunity to talk about that if you want to with her. You've mentioned it in the email for a reason, perhaps you felt it was easier to do it that way and it's all good. Remember your therapist is on your side and she'll work with you on the challenges you are ready to face.

yes i think you should bring it up, she would want to know and if anything happened to you because of it she would need to know.

Hi AnxiousGirl, it's really good that you're being open with your T through the emails, and considering doing that more in your session/s as well
And if she's a pretty good T (which she may well be if she's made you feel able to be open to her in emails!!) then she honestly shouldn't be alarmed.
In fact she should be appreciative of you in telling her that!!
And what you're doing/dieting absolutely doesn't make you "bad"!! Telling her just gives her a little more help in knowing the areas you might need more support with.
It's important that she's really understanding how you're feeling and the effects of things on you to better support you right??
So, really well done on being so open!!!

Alison

Hi there, I would urge you to reiterate your diet to your therapist since its related to your body image and mental health as well as your physical wellbeing.
